Has Everyone Finally Left ?

Since frostbite is a real concern these days lurking in the bushes isn't advisable. I've had to resort to drive byes when the jalopy starts. Maybe that will change once this artic wind breaks.

I go through phases though. I post heavily for a week or two and then disappear. And my haituses from the board seem to get longer as time goes on.

I notice a lot of regulars tend to be winding down as well. Message boards are going out of style.

Cormac is consistent, though. I'm grateful because with everyone else on the decline, there'd be much less to talk about without him.

In my experience, usually a forum would die down over time typically because of 2 reasons I can think of:

1. The forum specific topic is too narrow such that people just ran out of stuff to talk about. I once belonged to a forum about evolution vs creation. It was active for years until we ran out of stuff to talk about. Hardly anyone show up there anymore. Same with a a forum about Lord of the flies I once participated in.

2. Forum is taken over by a group who think they own the forum and over time bully other people off. I've seen this happen with several forums. Most noteworthy were 2 evolution vs creation forums where all the "evil"utionists migrated to one and all the creationists migrated to the other. Both eventually died off because echo Chambers are boring.

You are not describing forums there, but mere punching rings: all brawls eventually die down.

Aristomaniac, I agree with your reasons for forums dying and I have seen both and I have seen both happen plenty. But also understand that forums in general becoming outdated. Social media is killing them off.

Most of the discussions I used to have to come here for, I can now get on various Facebook groups. That wasn't even an option just a few years ago. The only reason left to come to a place like this--other than friends I've made over the years--is the increased sense of anonymity.

Otherwise, LGBT conversations are happening a ton on platforms I'm already using daily.

^ I wonder if that heating in the "social media" amplifies the reason why some of us one day just decide to leave and stay away... until, one fine day, for the silliest reason, come back to browse some specific data they recalled having posted or found here... and then start posting again too.
I assume there are far more people getting fed up with those SM, only there is a bigger pool there, because forums are segregated backwaters, and the different discussion groups, or whatever they are called, in FB or Twitland, or whatever, are just different neighbouring pools in the same big public baths.

Even if social media is losing its luster, you can do pretty much everything on it as a message board and a million things more. That's why message boards are dying.

Some of us prefer boutiques and smaller shops to big shopping malls or big brand stores  (rich coming from someone who still gets dressed at MD)

Oh, he won't be the last one left then. For chattery ghosts I thought it'd be Benvolio. or possibly Telly.

Darn right i'll be the last one gone, i'll see all of you dead..............eh, i mean gone.

Probably why you want to be a mod so bad, so you can ban us all and have the place to yourself.
