HBO's Game of Thrones. ( No Book Spoilers Allowed -- Go to Hell.)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Up to episode 7 here and i'm seriously considering giving up on it.

Why would you want to give it up? Now is when it is starting to get good, I understand the first few episodes have been slow but they had to set up the storylines. Trust me when I say that it is going to get interesting.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Robert is the architect of his own doom. So no .. I don't really feel bad for him. Just a bit of pity.

Point duly noted. In retrospect, I probably should've used pity as a descriptor instead. He's caused me to do a couple of facepalms so far, so I definitely have to agree with your assessment of his situation.

Peter Dinklage/Tyrion is outstanding. I sincerly hope he receives an Emmy for this role.

Honestly, I don't see how he can't.

-----------------------------------------------------
I've begun to hear rumblings of anxiety from my friends as well about book 4 as we discuss the series more. Needless to say, it takes all of my self-control to remove myself from the situation when they begin to cross the line into spoiler-ville.

Having said that though, just be glad this guy doesn't have Robert Jordan's (R.I.P.) long-winded, redundant writing style...or I'd be 80 by the time he finished his series.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

My favorite character is Jon Snow, such a charming guy
and with that smile

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Jon is a bit too "emo" for me. But he is growing on me, too. The last scene with Master Aemon was great.

Also Robb and Bronn are getting better and better.

But Shae? I am a bit disappointed :(

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

This last episode was again riveting and horrifying in it's conclusion. Completely unexpected and made my heart beat faster and anxiously. This is superior tv with exquisite performances. Every single person is just great.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

^ I am glad that you feel this way. I have read a few comments of people who have not read the books and are very angry about Ned's death and swore to never watch the show again.

Thumbs up for HBO for having the courage to go through with a show like that. I don't remember any other show where a main character that you identified yourself with, THE hero is killed of within the first season.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

I've been really, really, really enjoying the reactions of people who haven't read the books to recent events. :rotflmao: Even more fun than the predictions.

(Can we get some spoiler tags up in this thread by the way? [ spoiler]Yourtext[/ spoiler])

Not everybody gets to watch the latest episode right away.
:) :) :)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

jon is cute enough, but not really my type (the actor), and him and his wall storyline always put me to sleep.

i didnt really notice bronn in the book, but in the series hes awesome. i could watch a series about tyrion, bronn, and shae alone. the chemistry between these three is amazing. i did imagine shae a little more girly and a litte less skanky, though (if it makes sense to say that about a prostitute).

this ep, for the first time i looked at robb and though: 'hm, hes kinda hot.' did they style him differently? or is my mind playing tricks, now that his character finally has something cool to do?

also kinda hot: jorah mormont.

(because the best way to discuss this amazing, acomplished, artfull, intricate, multi-layered show, is to point at guys and say:'kinda hot'. sorry guys.)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

^ that's why we discuss it here and not in some ASOIAF forum :king:

and i agree with you .. Robb kinda looked different. Maybe they made him look a bit older with make up? he seemed darker? probably to show off how he has grown and is now more mature or so. stuff that usually cat observes, but since we don't have her POV ..

about the spoilers .. I put up a warning at the first page now. Since this is a developing series, I would assume people are smart enough to not read the thread until they have seen the latest episode. At least that's what I do, although I know what will happen :D

I would highly recommend
tags for spoilers from the book though!

@zoltanspawn:
still disagree with the casting of Tyrion?

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

sunday night's episode - I'd say riveting, and that ending holy shit!

Sean Bean topped his death scene from LOTR as Boromir

I just started reading the 1st novel - but I'm staying behind the action of the HBO series

after this sunday, I'll catch up with all the books.

No doubt. My best friend's girlfriend just looked at the TV with an eerily blank face and simply said "This show sucks. I'm never watching it again." No anger. No excitement. Nothing. Just the icy calm of emptiness. Mind you, this is the same woman who leaves the room whenever an animal is about to be killed in horror (in her defense, and I love her dearly, she is a vet tech). And I think she meant it.

We spent an hour and a half after the show trying to explain why Ned had to die. My boy from the perspective of a reader of the series and myself from the perspective of a fantasy geek following the trends of fantasy literature in general. I think she kinda got it after awhile, but she was still speaking like she had lost all emotional attachment to the show.

He doesn't think she'll watch with us on Sunday. I think she will...haha. As a last resort, I appealed to her abject hatred of Cersei and Joffrey to see them get their come uppance. Only time will tell if that works. ;)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Revenge .. that's actually what initially MADE me want to read more. Of course everything happened a bit different ...

but eventually that brat got what it deserved

I recanted in post 42. (o) He's amazing. A friend of mine has done some work with him professionally and relates that he's not just fantastic on the screen, but tremendous behind the scenes, too.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

that shit is hilarious :rotflmao:

franky, im a little baffled at some of the reactions. not just that video, but generally across the net. have those guys never seen a plot twist? yes its pretty shocking, but why would it make you want to stop watching the series? the stakes just got that much higher!

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

The thing that I like about Jon Stark is that, sometimes he seems so intelligent and other times he acts stupid

(because the best way to discuss this amazing, acomplished, artfull, intricate, multi-layered show, is to point at guys and say:'kinda hot'. sorry guys.)

Most of the time, what happens is that if we discuss more about the story line rather than the hot guys is that we end up having a lot of spoilers and that would literally kill me for 1 year because I guess next season will be next year. That's why its much better to comment in this forum rather than the others because if we post a picture of the character we like, it will end up us being bashed by those conservative guys.

I know, right? Maybe it's something about just watching it as a television program? Nobody I know who read the books....stopped reading them when, um, various events transpired. I find that sort of thing dynamic and exciting.

Also, I can't stop laughing. :rotflmao:
That poor man has no idea.

What he said....

And I'm one who hasn't read the books, which I think is a good thing since so many great books become mediocre films. However, that's not the case here.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

I just watch for the eye-candy and hot bods. There, I said it.

I don't generally read sword an sorcery stuff - but my partner does. Generally because it usually is pretty black and white and two dimensional. But he got me to read the first book, which was no mean feat because these books are not so much books but tomes, but after I got to that point, I was reading for several pages thinking "...did that just happen..." it made me want to read more just to see what the fuck else was going to happen.

I haven't watched the show, frankly if they've managed to pull off what the author has that's also no mean feat. His characters are really well done, Tyrion is my favorite, well rounded, believable motivations, almost all of the characters are well done, I actually started sympathizing with the King-slayer at one point - despite the evil shit he pulls. I like the way the author has rounded out his antagonists to the point where it's possible to understand their point of view. Cerseri's descent into madness is fascinating to follow, Arya is a great Character - major cliffhanger there. I also have this morbid affinity for the late Lord Walder Frey.

The other point where I was asking myself if "...did that just happen..." is the most famous wedding in the books. I'll leave it at that. If you've read the books you know what I'm talking about, but that will hit people even more than the other, and just underscores that all the rules are out the window and God only knows what's coming next. Throw in some truly creepy supernatural evil, and some flesh crawling villains and you've got one hell of a story.

Oh and yeah, the guy playing Jon Snow is smokin' hot.
