HBO's Game of Thrones. ( No Book Spoilers Allowed -- Go to Hell.)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

^ i think i was pretty clear about the spoiler. warning in the first line.

Ah yes, JUB is a bit more sophisticated than other websites...

This is a spoiler tag

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

It's beyond obnoxious.

It's gratuitous that's for sure. But it doesn't bother me in the least. I guess I'm pervy like that. (And I would never, ever refer to it as "raging heterosexuality." Oy.

I'm chalking it up to damned if you do and damned if you don't. (I just thank the makers that they're so goddamned damned.)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

^ lol, The fact that the sex scenes are heterosexual in nature doesn't bother me.

It's just...getting to be TOO graphic. Like in S2 ep 2, was it really necessary to show:
One of Little Finger's prostitutes with cum dripping out of her mouth? Right before she kisses some old dude?
That and to me a lot of the scenes involving women being raped/coerced into sex/being mistreated during sex are filmed in a way that seems like they're meant to titillate. Like they're a misogynist's wet dreams come to life. It's so gross to me.

As for the basic nudity, it would be more tolerable if it were equal-opportunity, but it's really not. Why can't the straight women and gay men get some decent fan service, too?

I'm not amused, tbh. But I guess I shouldn't be surprised.

I haven't seen S2 Ep 2, but from what you describe... Oh, my. Hmm.

And I have to agree that coercion and rape are when things start to get weird. That's not kosher.

It's certainly true that the gratuitous nudity is not gender equal, but I will say that I've seen more full-frontal male (split-second glimpse or not) than I bargained for, so there is that.

I guess we'll have to see where it all goes, but I am sensitive to your apprehension. (*8*)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Yeah, I'll have to watch again but my BF was distracting me while I attempted to explain the story line.

It should be noted that nearly all the "nude" shots are technically fake or rather they used "enhanced features".

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

They go further on the tv show than they do in the book. In the book, it is just suggested that Renly might have a lover. I believe that will be the last gay relationship on the show.

Suggested is a bit of an understatement. Implied is the better word. When Stannis and Renly meet up before the battle, I hope they save the famous quib for TV...

Renly: ...I got Margaery. You’ll be pleased to know she came to me a maid.

Stannis: In your bed she’s like to die that way.
Tyrion isn't the only character with great one-liners.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

GoT renewed for a third season. I wonder if we will get to RW now. It was rumored that the renewal took so long is because many persons' contracts are up after season 3 and if they split SoS into 2 seasons, well, it's not all rosy. The other option was to extend season 3 to say 13 or 14 episodes but HBO ruled against that.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Well they went further last night with the gay kiss. Still loving this season. Can't wait for it to get further into the plot though. Feels like everything is just being set up right now.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

I loved the scene with Renly and Loras. I actually felt more comfortable watching them than I do watching the softcore porn scenes with the straight characters. Also, I am in love with both Margaery and Brienne. Brienne is almost exactly how I pictured her in my head, and I cannot wait to see her develop in the coming weeks. I love how we got to meet Margaery in this episode. Anyone who has read the books would already know that her involvement in the storyline is a bit premature. But in all honesty, I don't mind. She brought home the fact that though Renly stands in good favor with his men, his claim (and hers, as well) to power is tenuous at best. Plus the whole thing with her suggesting that Loras get involved with their consummation really made my night.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

I liked most of the episode last nite but OMG WTH are they doing to Littlefinger? He is just all over the place. What happened to the quiet yet graceful manipulator from the books?

I do like the casting of Brianne and look forward to her arc through the next few seasons.

I'm indifferent to the whole Loras/Renly thing.

I'm just glad it ends after this season.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

This is sorta late, but I still can't believe they killed Rakharo off so early in the series. Pretty lame.

As for last night's ep, I'm ready for Cersei to get hers. I couldn't stand her from the very first time she made an appearance.

But the Ser Loras and Renly scenes are always hot!

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

LOL. Yeah, going by some of the reactions I've read online, even some of the guys were like..."erm, lol what." So unnecessary.

Full-frontal: Theon and the weird giant pale ugly guy, right? That's all I can remember. I kind of don't want to remember. :help: And Jason Momoa had some (non frontal) nudity. That was welcome.

The sex scenes have been mostly hetero. The same-sex scenes...Loras & Renly was very tame. But the lesbian stuff has, unsurprisingly, been quite the opposite and geared towards a straight male gaze: both involved straight women, one was about how to please a man and the other was about Littlefinger coaching his prostitutes. #-o

It's really obvious who the fan service is primarily for.

Haha, thanks. (*8*) I think sometimes I just need to vent about it. But I do enjoy the show. And yeah, we'll see how it goes. Maybe it'll get better on that front.

Oh, they're so screwing with us.

And yet...I'm still glued to the screen. :)

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Another awesome episode. I wonder if they are going to show any battles though...I get it that is expensive to produce, but it is also critical to the story.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Great episode! This show is getting better and better!

I'm kinda sad though that Renly was killed by that Stanis-shaped black cloud. A gay king on the Iron Throne could have been quite interesting. With the agreement between Cat an Renly just before he was killed a very powerful alliance had been struck and also a relatively reasonable one. Unfortunately that didn't happen. I'm wondering if we'll see Loras again. Loved the scene with Cat and Brienne where they both vowed to stick together.

Arya was great as always. With that guy promising her three killings of her choice she has a powerful weapon at hand. She kinda wasted the first one but she's got a long list of people who have wronged her family. Who's going to be next?

Jon Snow is usually one of my favorite characters but this week his story was still being setup and therefore relatively lame.

I didn't really understand what Tyrion was getting at. Now he knows his sister's and Joffrey's defence plan and he told the alchemist that only he and nobody else would be using those wildfire things - so?

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

Great, the only character I liked (Other than Kit harrington's character) is dead.

Do they eventually become lovers?

Quick spoiler: No, Brienne and Catelyn do not become lovers.

First, yes we will see Loras again. His and Margaery's story isn't quite done yet.

Second, wildfire is extremely volatile. Mishandled, it could destroy all of King's Landing even before the enemy forces set sail. To leave that kind of power in the hands of Joffrey and Cersei would be completely illogical, and probably fatal.

Now, on another note, did anyone think that Arya was checking Gendry out just a little bit (I know I was)? I mean, she is a growing girl. The books never touch on it, but I always imagined that when the time was right, the two of them would be good together.

Great! I love Loras! I guessed that Margaery's story would be going on. She's shrewd and really knows what she wants. If she actually would like to become "the Queen" in the near future as she told Littlefinger she currrently has three options:

- marrying Stanis who -- with the help of a witch -- killed her husband (bad idea)
- teaming up with the Lannisters and marrying that complete lunatic Joffrey (very bad idea)
- marrying Robb (don't know what I'd think about that)

I was wondering the same. He's hot! Arya is probably still a little too young for him though.

One of those options almost happens in the books and technically does.
Gendry was smoking which I guess made up for the lack of female nudity in this episode.

I'm a bit peeved over the swapping of Roose for Tywin at Harrenhal. Also having Arya not kill Tickler was disappointing because that was a great scene in STORM OF SWORDS!!!! Ugh, all this out place stuff is a bit annoying but some plot lines like Arya's can be fudged a bit as she's a bit isolated from the rest like dany's and jon's. Maisie as Arya is fucking brilliant and can even steal the scene away from Charles Dance.

Re: A song of ice and fire: HBO's Game of Thrones

this show has many and will have many characters. there will always be characters that you like and characters that die. no hero is safe here. it's something that makes this series stand out.

Tywin in Harrenhall I can live with .. it's a bit out of place though
and clegane still has the possibility to make this place a mess for jaimie's visit
but yes .. not enough Arya action :(

Gotta love Gendry though :) oh .. and arya is .. 10 - and not interested in boys or knights ;) in the books there was a funny scene when gendry discovered her real gender where he is embarassed that he "peed" in front of her. wish i had seen that :)
