Sex is never completely safe, only safer if we use condoms etc. Accidents can happen. Condoms can break. Semen can splash to the eyes, for instance. Mutual JO involves some risk of transferring semen from one to the other. If you are uncut, you should be aware that you are at greater risk as shown by studies in Africa. Apparently because the skin is thinner on the head and inside the foreskin, microscopic scratches and tears may allow entrance to the virus, I personally do not have sex with anyone whom I know or believe to be infected, but of course, you often do not know.

Agree with Benvolio. The risk of pregnancy with condoms is 2-3% which substantially reduces the risk of HIV infection from gettin bred which is arguably about 1%. But infection happens, and there is no magic pill. Meds have side effects, are hella expensive and may not work for you forever, if at all. What Gay Men need to do is to make a decision about what is an acceptable level of risk regarding STDs and HIV for themselves. We have sexual self-determination. However, we should make an informed decision of risk vs. benefit when we are free of coercion and then stick to whatever limits we set. Waiting to make a decision when your already at the bath house and a hella hot stud is pressuring you for whatever is not the best time to decide. Some really well-meaning guys here alway try to impose their values on everyone with words like ALWAYS and NEVER. We each have to do what is best for us, realizing that there is risk.

This myth has yet to receive credible support from research undertaken in a developed country.

African countries are not a source of encouragement for understanding, or appreciating how best to reduce the incidence of sexually transmitted infections.
