Yesterday was my partner's birthday. We had friends and family over for our party. We celebrate our birthdays togther as mine 6 days later. Anywhoooo.. I took a risk and decided to ask him to marry me. I debated for weeks on whether to give him the ring and propose in front of everyone or to wait for a private moment. When I opened his birthday card he gave me, it was the exact same card I gave him. I knew right then and there it was the right thing to do. I didn't see his reaction to opening the box, but I was told his eyes popped out when he unwrapped the box. He accepted without hesitation (I guess after the eyes popped back into his head). Everyone was as shocked as he was. So looks like we have a wedding to plan.

Congratulations! It's a wonderful thing! :D

If there's one thing that can unite everyone here at JUB, it's the hope that you two will have the best of everything for always.

Congratulations!

Thanks guys. Tentative date is set for Nov18th. We picked out our wedding bands today. Told both families. Everyone is thrilled for us.

Me too, me too. I want to wish the happy boys congrats and many years of happiness.

I love romance! Cheers.

Updates

Thanks everyone for the lovely sentiments. I tried to enter stuff in my blog yesterday, but for some reason it doesn't show up today. Anywho....

We have set the date/location of the ceremony. We sent out the invitations yesterday. We have the marriage commissioner booked. Interestingly enough, he has performed around 62 marriages and he was telling us that out of all those marriages, only 5 couples were from Canada. The rest were from the states. A bigger  was that the majority of the couples he married were from Texas. Next week we have an appointment with the caterers. The diamond engagement ring I gave my partner on his birthday, he absolutely loves. He wanted to wear it immediately, but originally, I planned on the rings be used in the ceremony. He was so eager to wear his ring, he came up with the idea of him buying plain gold bands to exchange during the ceremony. So we are both wearing our engagement rings now.

I have been searching the internet for gay marriage accessories/decorations.. etc mostly doing searches in google canada.. but I'm ](*,) there is hardly any Canadian gay marriage sites that cater to us. Everything is so hetro wedding with blurbs about gay marriage in Canada but nothing in the way of supplies etc. Someone is missing out on a huge enterprise with potential to make lots of money. One would be surprised there is so little canadian content. The gay marriage sites I have come across all are US based sites. Which also surprises me considering gay marriages are not legal (except Mass.) All the stuff I find to order are all shipped from the U.S which means duty charges and rate exchanges). I did find a gay site that has limited gay wedding stuff so at least I ordered the cake two grooms topper.

I even went to a few stores in town, and finding wedding supplies is tough.
So, there is still much work to be done. Just wish there were more gay options around here.

He has a son 27yrs old and a daughter 24yrs old. He's done raising kids and I have no desire to start a family at this age in my life. But thanks for the well wishes.

Yaaay! Congratulations!

Isn't the most important gay marriage decor the two-groom cake thingy anyway, so you're half the way done already.

To be honest... now that I think of it, what kind of decor should a gay marriage have, in comparation to the hetero marriage event? I've never given it any thought before, and now I can't come up with anything.

Well...yes, the wedding cake two grooms toper is important.. but what about paper wedding bells, streamers, doves, hearts, those cute favors that hetro brides and grooms give out to their guests.. the guest album, wedding balloons, candles.. the champaing flutes to toast each other.. to name a few.
