With a Democratic revolt in Massachusett, the Democrats in the house and senate will be afraid to vote for the failed health care bill or any bill proposed by Obama. Obama has lost his mandate (if he had one).

The bluest of blue state said "we do not like the direction Washington is taking, it is too leftist".

Brown campaigned saying that he will be the forty first vote against health care. Blue Mass. overwhelming voted for him and against this bad health care bill.

Massachusetts said clearly "Do not shove this bill down our throat".

While I too eagerly anticipate the end of Washington's attempt to screw up my health insurance, whether or not that happens, I'm enjoying the big picture. To me this race is in and of itself more significant than, as well as backs up, what we saw back in November in New Jersey and Virginia. Maybe Dear Leader Comrade Obama isn't the Messiah after all, and that air of invicibility has been shattered.

I consider myself a Democrat and I do support Obama and the liberal agenda. With that said, (and I may be in the minority here with my friends), I'm glad this happened tonight. I'm very thankful the Republican won. Without the 60 votes majority in the Senate, the Democrats might actually have an awakening that you cannot work with the conservatives. Maybe NOW, Obama and the other democrats have learned that bi-partisanship is no longer an option. Obama needs to have a "Fuck You" attitude and push through his ideas however he can (reconciliation, etc.).

I know most Republicans are very excited about this win and they think it's the second coming but I truly believe this will be the second revival of the Democrats and not the Republicans. I realize it has taken a year for the Democrats to get it through their head but it's going to happen now. So the Republicans deserve their victory tonight but don't count Obama and the Democrats out just yet. This is gonna be a great year and I cannot wait! :-)

I just heard Sen. Jim Webb (D, VA) said the Senate would be wise to wait until Brown is seated to revisit health care.

I don't know which makes me more sick.

1. Watching Republicans fuck up this country

or

2. Watching the Homosexuals who support them cheer on with
smug and glee...

Can someone explain to me why any self respecting Gay man or Woman
would support a republican for anything? A party of people who thrives on the
HATE of the religious right. Oh nevermind, don't bother!

I'm already sick....

We've schooled jockboy on this fact, and now it seems its your turn. Not all republicans are anti-gay. Anyone that tells you that or believes that is lying to you or lying to themselves. There are numerous moderate republicans out there that support gay rights and are on record doing so. Promulgating negative stereotypes of the republican party is just as bad as what the far right does to gays. You'd be well off not to do it. ..|

I think as a mod Dem I'm allied with GOP mods...could we form a new party..the Mod Squad?

They will have to. Once the election is over (literally as soon as the votes are done being counted), Paul Kirk's term expires. Even if the senate does not seat him immediately, they will not have the necessary votes to proceed.

I think Mass law has a 10 day period for Sec. of State Bill Galvin to certify the election results and send it to the Clerk of the Senate.

I'm honestly curious about this..... Could you possibly send me a link or a list of some sort of the Republicans that support gay rights/marriage/civil unions, etc.?
I honestly couldn't tell you who does or not in the Republican party but I'll take your word for it.... I just want to know who.

The bolded is where your post veers away from fact and into delusion.

I got no problem with different political views. If you are a Republican, that's fine. But there are very few Republicans that support equality for gays and saying they are numerous does not make it so.

It just seems that NO ONE wants to touch the subject and actually pass legislation for gay rights.

While the watered-down health care bill offered few solutions to the real issues in US health care, it's telling to see that conservatives will happily cheer on any lack of progress for the issue.

Meanwhile, medical bills continue to be the number one cause of home foreclosure in the US.

Tens of millions of Americans continue to have no medical insurance.

People with pre-existing conditions continue to be denied any form of medical insurance.

Insurance companies continue to deny policy holders many forms of treatment whenever they can.

Hooray, conservatives, hooray. You must be very proud.

Not that it's really relevant to this discussion but this issue has been hashed out hundreds of times before:
there are a lot of other more important issues out there than gay marriage, which at any rate, the democrats aren't too keen on anyway. Even if they were, when you're like me you've got other issues that are much more important to you then whether or not the government wants to call my partner my "husband"

here's a link to the legislative agenda of GOProud, a gay republican's organization:

http://goproud.org/?page=legislativeagenda

That is more of a special interest group website. I was wondering if anyone has a link to NAMES of people who are currently in the Senate/House that are Republican and support gay/equal rights?

GOProud....?

Oh, please.

If you're going to use a gay Republican website at least cite the Log Cabin Republicans who actually fight for gay rights.

GOProud has actively supported candidates and organizations with GLARING anti-gay agendas.

They're puppets, nothing more.

Gay marriage is one of the multitude of gay rights that we are working to fight for.

Like ENDA.

Or the DADT.

This list came from HRC, and is by no means exhaustive. As you can see, you're quite mistaken.

And you think the legislation currently being finalized would fix ANY of that?
