Healthcare going forward

I know you guys don't agree with me. But the fact that they keep lying about creating an alternate plan leads to only one logical conclusion.

Republicans do have a plan. If you end ACA with no replacement plan, what happens? Everything goes back to the way it was before Obamacare became law. That's really what they want. That's their plan. They don't care about improving healthcare for Americans. They're still obsessed with undoing everything Obama. Their hate for Obama overrides ever other consideration. Since they couldn't repeal ACA outright, they're sabotaging ACA until it collapses. That's why they never produce an actual replacement plan. The plan they want, is to make it like it used to be.

Improbable.

There's 21 million people on ACA plans who enrolled through Healthcare.gov. The subsidies that the government pays to private insurers is about 6% of the $1.6 trillion healthcare insurance outlay.

If they do away with the subsidies, most people with low incomes would drop their insurance, as would people in the under 30 age group (including those who are now covered under their parents insurance until age 26).

It would tank many of the hospitals, especially those in poorer neighborhoods and in rural areas. The insurance companies would lose millions in revenue. The public would rebel.

And it would be the fastest road to a public option the next time the Democrats are in power.

^^ You're talking like you think republicans actually care about those consequences. I don't disagree that's what would happen, but I don't think republicans care at all. They haven't shown the slighted indication of caring. All they do is rant about how bad Obamacare is and how they want to undo it. But they haven't produced an alternate plan in 15 years. Many of them still talk about "sticking it to Obama" or some such language. If they repealed ACA without a replacement, what you said is what will happen. Yet, they keep trying to do it.

They are sabotaging ACA so that it eventually will collapse. They are already effectively doing away with most of the subsidies by making polices unaffordable for most people. They didn't care about uninsured low income people before. They didn't care about uninsured people under 30, or those on parent's insurance until age 26. They're already tanking hospitals in poorer neighborhoods and rural areas. They didn't care if you couldn't get insurance due to a "pre-existing condition". They didn't care about any of that. Why do you think they would care now? That's not going to deter them. They fought all the way to do nothing about it.

What republicans keep trying to do is repeal or cripple the ACA, with no replacement, no alternate plan. Fifteen years later, they have nothing. They're not acting rationally. They don't care about the health of the American people. They're acting out of disdain for a black president who got something good done, and they don't like it. They want to show up Obama, and cancel all his accomplishments.

I base this on everything republicans actually do. The plain simple fact is, if they repeal ACA with no plan to replace it, everything goes back to the way it was before the ACA became law. No? As long as they keep trying to do that, that's what they want to happen - the consequences of it be damned. Who cares what it does to the American people? We beat Obama, we owned the libs.

So until they can put up a bill that says "Repeal ACA and replace it with this plan", I can't believe they are actually serious about health care, and all they want is retribution, no matter how much pain it causes. If they do that, then I'll change my mind.

In the last Trump Administration, Trump railed about NAFTA. How awful the trade agreement negotiated by Clinton was. Trump was going to get a better agreement. He negotiated pretty much the same agreement and renamed it USMCA.

Well... get ready.

They're going to rename the subsidies "TrumpCare". They'll send people checks to buy their own healthcare instead of sending the money directly to the insurance company. The policies will be the shitty minimal coverage policy that Rand Paul talked him into back in 2019.

This is the first step: "TrumpRX"- a government website with Trump's name and nothing but his picture on it.

It will be a mess. Just like everything Trump touches. But it will remove the name of the only black President in American history and put the other colored President's name on it. But because it will never get through the Senate, it will be Obamacare, just renamed to make it look like Trump came up with it.

If the Democrats are smart, which they don't seem to be, they'll start talking about the public option or single payer healthcare because Americans are really fed up with paying thousands of dollars to deal with bureaucratic crappy healthcare.

Well, that just demonstrates another thing I've been saying for saying 10+ years: "The only republicans really don't like Obamacare, is Obama".

But until they put up an actual written plan, I'm still going with " they want to repeal and put everything back the way it was just to cancel Obama", because at this point in time, they've not done anything different.
But whatever happens, their focus is to cancel Obama, not the healthcare of the American people. I certainly do agree, anything republicans do, will be a catastrophic mess.

They are never going to mail people back money.

Ever.

Half the people would take the money, not buy insurance and still turn up at the emergency department without coverage.

Trump has mentioned the idea of eliminating the ACA subsidies and changing them to direct payments to individuals more than once. It's hard to know whether it's another instance of Trump using his social media platform to direct the horde and his minions in Congress or whether he's desperately trying to make promises to buy off the American public a la "bread and circuses".

It would be disastrous to make direct payments. Over time, I'm becoming less of a fan of the ACA. It started out great but the plans are becoming ridiculously expensive and it's apparent that it's just another governmental subsidy to the private insurance companies. In the 15 years since the ACA passed, we've seen insurance companies use the windfall to merge and to buy up their competitors. We're now in a situation where your insurance company likely owns your pharmacy and the urgent care that you use. They own the company that pays your pharmaceutical benefit. They own the company that processes the insurance claims and processes payments to providers.
