Healthier salad dressings / toppings

My standard dressing for a green salad (or almost any salad) is oil, red wine vinegar, a bit of dijon for emulsification, minced garlic, salt and pepper. Sometimes a squirt of lemon.

Kidney beans are a good addition to a salad - they add more substance, and are quite good for you.

A delicious non-green choice is my perennial summer food - corn salad.

Some halved cherry or grape tomatoes, diced bell pepper, cubed avocado, 1 bag of thawed white corn, salt, pepper and lime juice. It might seem like you'd need some oil, but it's perfect with just the lime juice. When you mix it the avocado provides a bit of fat, and nothing more is needed.

Delicious with some grilled salmon or chicken.

(Yes, a bag of frozen white corn. You can just leave it out of the freezer for a few hours to thaw, and it will retain its tenderness better than if you do anything to cook it in any way. If you have the umph to cook it fresh on the cob instead, congratulations.)

Brianna's Home Style Blush Wine Vinaigrette Dressing

The best salad dressing EVER, lol.

"anything" meaning "any bottle salad dressing." (I can see how you made that error... I'm not always that clear when typing)

that said... just about anything else, too.

Jarred sauces, energy drinks, diet soda, non-diet soda, condiments, pickled vegetables, sugar-free soft-drinks.... just about all of it is horrible for you. I know what a pain it is, but it's best to make everything yourself.

That sounds pretty good and I love that there's no salt in the recipe. I think I'd even sqeeze in a little lemon juice for added flavor.

Yep, I usually do put a little lemon or lime juice in it to prevent the color from darkening. It is really good. My aunt taught me how to do it when I was a kid. Auntie Doreen's Salad. :)

usually I make my own salad dressing but..until reading this thread..I completely forgot about my favorite salad dressing that comes in a bottle-- Annie's Goddess Dressing. It is not so bad for a creamy, bottled salad dressing and it is so good!

Ingredients: Expeller pressed canola oil, water, tahini, cider vinegar, soy sauce, lemon juice, sea salt, garlic, toasted sesame seeds, parsley, chives, xanthan gum

Wishbone Sun dried tomato vinaigrette is pretty good and not too bad for you as far as bottled dressings go.

Oh my god xanthan gum! How is that different from anthrax?

Thanks a lot for the ideas guys! I am inspired to make my own dressing now. I'm excited to try the avocado idea.

To those who avoid eating anything out of bottle, box, etc....do you never eat in a restaurant?!
