Obama Visit Overshadowed by Clinton

May 15, 2007

Give yesterday's round in New Jersey to Democratic presidential candidate Sen. Hillary Clinton of New York.

It's funny because Clinton never stepped inside the Garden State ring yesterday.

Instead, she commanded and dominated media coverage, especially on the local New York City television newscasts, from Albany, N.Y., where she accepted the endorsements of Gov. Eliot Spitzer and others.

Meanwhile, fellow candidate U.S. Sen. Barack Obama, D-Ill., moved across New Jersey from photo-op to photo-op, from fund raiser to union rally, only to receive polite applause and lackluster TV minutes.

At the same time, Clinton was on the statehouse steps in Albany with a boisterous crowd of 5,000 supporters as she accepted the long-expected endorsement of New York Gov. Elliot Spitzer, and other top Democrats, including Lt. Gov. David Paterson and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo.

Clinton seemed to smile non-stop and drew her biggest cheers when she spoke of high energy costs.

"Enough with the talk, enough with the speeches," she said. "Let's have an Apollo project that says once and for all that we're going to end our dependence on foreign oil."

The New York television stations couldn't stop replaying that one. They also made repeated mentions of the many African-American legislators who were in Albany endorsing Clinton.

Why would anybody bother with those Sunday talking head shows if they don't need to?

Oh, let me help! I believe what chance1 is talking about is how Clinton, who may not appear on Sunday shows because, you know, she might not be invited, is kicking kooky McCain's ass in the polls. As well as kicking coward Giuliani's nuts into the gutter. I believe that's what he means.

A-hah! Thanks General. Sometimes I need help in breaking the code.;)

Of course he was.

He's desperate.

I thought you live in New York.

She's here.

He's desperate? he's campaigning - trying to get to the voters to tell them what he believes in

she's here? where
never see her in NY
I picture her huddled with her attack people scheming ways to "look good"

why bother? cause people (aka voters) watch and listen
might be nice to explore her views on subjects

Yup - she's playing stall ball

it'll probably work

but it sucks

and if u dig her, u want her to come out and tell us what she's all about

that's the way it is

People who watch the Sunday talking head shows know what McCain and Clinton "believes in." Those shows, for the most part, are little more than mental masturbation.

never see her in NY

Well she's not at your gym or walking from Times Sq subway up B'way to your office. You'll have to branch out a little if you want to see Senator Clinton. But I assure you she's out and about in New York.

Thanks for sharing another of your fantasies.

As I pointed out, the people who watch those shows know her and her views. For those who want to hear candidate views expressed on TV, they can catch her during the debates. The Sunday shows are for talking heads and politicians who can't get face time in a better venue. She's a star; she doesn't need them.

On which issues are you unable to determine her view? Hillary Clinton has been in politics for years and years, and is both opinionated and verbal. If you don't know her views then you haven't bothered to try to learn them.

Hillary has been in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and South Carolina having a "conversation" with the people there. She has also been in Washington, DC, in her role as Senator from New York and working to bring an end to the war in Iraq. She's working for the people, not the media--which is why she isn't some media darling like a few other candidates we know.

Nick you are wrong & Lance is correct. She has been here(Iowa) 1-2 aweek for the past 2 months. Along with 18 other wanta-be-types.

She's been in New York as well.

Maybe you haven't heard about the new invention -- the aeroplane. Hillary Clinton appears in lots of places. Just not the Sunday morning shows.

At least we don't force people attending our campaign rallies to sign "loyalty oaths" or vet questions before they are asked at our town hall meetings--like another candidate in 2004.

Nicely done.

Nicely done.

nicely done?

what is this "dancing with the stars"?

sounds like a misdirect to me

as in "yeah maybe hillary never sits in front of a tough interviewer and provides the public with hard answers to tough questions but ............ let me bring up something else"

hardly nicely done

and perhaps off topic

Yeah..Whatever..

Who cares what John Mc Cain "belives in"?

I sure the hell don't "belive" anything he says.

Lying , senile ,old bastard.

almost as good - perhaps better than

Nick's "Giuliani is an ass"

cheers for the 80

so civilized

NOT

WTF are you trying to say? Could you try to be a bit more precise? Thank you.

Now, back to the topic. . . Chancie, boy. . . let's face it: if she ain't on Fox(RupertMurdoch)News, you ain't gonna see her. Try watching some legitimate news sources, and you can't miss seeing and hearing Ms. Clinton.

The "topic" that you raised was Hillary's willingness to "face tough questions" and give people answers. Talking to voters face-to-face is a much better way of doing that than sitting in a studio answering questions from a reporter. Answering voters directly is much more effective, especially in the clost-knit politics of Presidential Primaries.
