Hillary says she will help struggling Americans. Why Should We Believe that she would?

'Cause if you are making 15 dollars an hour at 20 hours a week you are fucked.

I absolutely do feel that 15/hr is a livable wage. At least in most of the country. I've lived on a lot less. More is almost always better of course, but not always necessary.

Maybe for you, but you have yet to address single parents with children trying to make ends meet. Things change enormously when there is even one child involved.

I'm n the Midwest. Yes, kids cost money. My assertions are based on a full time job. Every situation is a little different for sure.

Things change enormously when you only get 10 hours a week in which to make your miraculous tips.

So in Texas a waitress makes about 2 bucks and a quarter actual hourly and must rely on tips to get to that mythical and prosperous 15 dollars an hour. If you don't make about 7 dollars and a quarter, your employer needs to supply the extra five dollars - none of this with any kind of benefits of course so fuck you if you get sick!

Yeah and no employer ever (like the entire fast food industry) keeps their employees far under full time to keep their profits high?

Right.

If you're only working 10 or 20 hours a week by choice hen you have chosen to make less. When I was making less I put in more hours or took a side job. You guys keep acting like Its my fault everybody isn't making tons of money. I don't understand what the heck makes you act like I don't get it. Being poor sucks. I know that first hand. I have worked tirelessly for years. Jeez!

By Choice? Why is it you think that people choose to make less? I don't know about you, and you don't know about anyone else. So pretending that you are somehow the typical model - which obviously are not, and that you are somehow being "blamed" which is patently ridiculous seems a little defensive.

Perhaps though you aren't getting "it" by insisting that your situation is somehow indicative of everyone else.

I think I'm a pretty normal example. Working for a living, watching my budget. I stated earlier that everyone's experience is different. I'm a fair example of the working class. I would never choose to work such short hours if physically able. I don't know anyone else that would either. There is work to be done if one wishes to do it.

Are you though? How do you know that? I come from a farm family that never had spare cash for anything, and yet your statements do not resemble anything I or my friends had to deal with.

Then your statement that there are jobs if only you want them is completely untrue for a huge number of people.

YOU would never "choose" to work such short hours? Of course you are absolutely in control of your employment! How nice for you. NO ONE has different circumstances.

Come on, that sounds like justification you tell yourself.

In 1992 I was hired as a beginning checker for a local grocery store. The fucking puke manager (whose fucking puke father owned the store) would NOT give anyone over 20hrs a week. He did not want to pay benefits. So nobody worked over 20hrs. And if you worked 5 minutes more than 8hrs in a day, he had a shit fit. Because he had to pay time and a half. I begged for more hours. I got none. Instead, he moved me to throwing freight. 5'7" 135lbs and I'm supposed to throw freight. Sure. I ripped ALL the soft tissue in my back. I'm still paying for that this many years later.

Plus, I worked there for 8 months before I was even allowed in a check stand. Asshole found out real quick that I knew how to run a till and knew how to ring groceries up without looking at the keypad. I knew it by heart.

I looked for other jobs. I went to every other full sized grocery store in the city. Either they were not hiring, or it was 20hrs or less per week.

So, there's not always another job out there.

I'm not trying to justify anything. I've already told you I work my ass off and have a set budget. You keep acting like I'm up on some pedestal. I'm in the trenches with all the others pulling the cart. I choose to work for a living. I choose to live with the amount I make. If I want more, I work more. That's how life works. I'm living in reality while some people are trying to compare real life to some kind of fairytale. I worked 13 hours today as I did yesterday and the day before. I have to get up at 0430 to do it again. Don't keep acting like I'm some kind of coddled being. I celebrate Labor Day by doing just that.

I started a part time job at McDonalds in 89. Those were the days. My buddies would come in on Saturday mornings and call out orders directly to me. It was not funny to the counter workers. Classic. Sounds like you had a part time job. They don't allow a lot of hours. I guess you know that now. I'm sure it was frustrating before you figured it out.

Some choose that. Wake up and smell the BS.

So, Hanerkin, let me make sure I understand you: you're saying that if fast food, and other minimum wage earners don't like their hours they should simply ask their bosses for more?

No. That's not what I said. Gotta work early. Going to bed. Read above.

I didn't "choose that". When I was hired, it was supposed to be a full time job. Otherwise, I would've hit the door. I gave that miserable puke 1 day shy of 1 year.

I was actually better off when I worked for minimum wage and got 40hrs a week. Yeah, I lived in a dump. But I had money in my pocket.

There's no way in hell that I could live on minimum wage today. Even though the state of Washington's is higher than federal.
