I don't really follow HO (it falls into the category of "if it's on and I haven't got anything better to do, I won't necessarily switch it off"), but my reading of the situation is that Craig is kinda like Fox Maharissa from Friendly Hostility - essentially straight, but makes an exception for one specific guy that he loves almost to distraction.

The difference of course is that Fox isn't ashamed to admit how he feels or be seen in public with his BF.

For which Craig needs to be slapped nine ways until doomsday.

Oh, and for the people crying out for lack of resolution on this after the big cliffhanger - HO has so many characters and overlapping storylines that it isn't uncommon for them to drop one for a couple of weeks in order to allow the others to catch up. Otherwise the whole thing would just be a mess that no-one would be able to follow.
 
If you were given the watch that Craig gave to JP, do you think it's enough to make up the heart aches? bleh. but I like this part--

i'm sorry but john paul is 100% wrong. not as wrong as craig, but wrong. think about it. how can he start sleeping with his female friend's bf and think that it will end well. he's being selfish and heartless. he should have never touched craig until he and sarahw ere done completely no matter what craig says. they're both assholes.
 
well, he's just probably not like you who are strong enough not to give in to the one person you've fantasized and have been the reason of your coming out.
 
who cares about his fantasy? in ur real life if you want to maintain good friends, you need to do the right thing. now he'll have no one. these people were all good friends to him when he came out and tried to be supportive. especially sarah. and he thanks her by fucking her man behind her back.
 
and yeah, if he didn't do it then there'd be no storyline :) cool down, I know in our perspective it is wrong, how many times do we make mistakes in our lives? He made mistake, and it looks like, as what Hannah said, he would have his heart ripped sooner. But that does not make us stop from watching it and hoping he would at least gain a semblance of happiness.
 
no i agree. it's great fun watching it all unfold. and it is just acting. but i'm just observing that a person who does this in real life would be wrong and would end up losing every thing. but it also shows what i hate about gay relationships on tv. they're always screwed up and ultimately doomed. there's never a good, honest depiction. there's always deception and pain involved. which is so sad because i know several people who are in good decent relationships.
 
I understand what you're saying that , though there are people like John Paul in real life, there are also people who would walk away and move on.

As for your other point, gay theme is not mainstream yet in entertainment media, and that is probably why there is a rarity of gay couple being depicted as regular guys who deceive none and love each other despite whatever society dictates or whatever. Although you may think the portrayal is not realistic, most artists considered gay still a struggle, a conflict that can be a good tragedy material. History tells how we human beings love tragedy that we even inherited loads of them from the past--from the BC Prometheus Bound, to Shakespearean period Hamlet. One thing that is common in them is the main hero's character flaw that we tend to symphatize, for in doing so it somehow makes us feel better-- thus called entertainment.

Artists (writers, painters, etc.), I notice, couldn't help but succumb to the lure of using either self against self or self against society conflict in their portrayal of a gay theme, and it's understandable because in reality it is true.

Thus, if we are to portray them in different light, giving them different conflict that is not the usual hero against himself or hero against society norms, we need to make a little adjustment on the environment and society set-up, just like what Queer as Folk did where you can have a happy couple (Michael and Ben), free of deception. But even then, who's the most beloved character?Isn't the one that demonstrated more character flaws? The Brian who shuns anything that is with heterosexual influence? That same Brian who still struggles to be accepted by his parents?

Whoever then can do gay theme differently without changing the set-up of the society must have been someone very talented and creative because then he would be the first. :)
 
i just finished the latest episode. i hate john paul more than ever. you can't force someone out of the closet like that. he deserves to be alone for being so selfish and heartless

Am I missing something? Are you watching it via youtube or live, as in you are in England? I ask this, because the most recent one in Youtube is for the episode yesterday (UK) and has nothing to do with Craig being forced out of the closet.
 
doughboy i'm glad you agree that jp's behavior is pathetic. so many people on the youtube think it's so cool and romantic and i'm like jp is so sad and foolish. young gay people need to respect themselves and not be in these situations. but i still love to watch.
 
Wow, that was pretty dirty. Can't say I blame him, though. It happens in every soap. Someone in love does something despicable when the thought of losing their love to someone else. It's not a gay youth thing, it's a soap thing.

I guess I can't blame Craig either, but I gotta have someone to love to hate...and love? Argh, I hate having such conflicting emotions >_< lol

yea that is his jp's sister, mercedes. she's hot. it's kind of important that she's defending him because when he first came out she was not accepting. she constantly made rude remarks about his sexuality. she finally admitted that she didn't want him to be gay because she didn't want the world to hate him and hurt him.

is jacqui the half black one. if so i like her too. she's sweet. the latest ep was so good. surprisingly the jp craig stuff was short. but a lot happened. i can't believe craig finally made a choice.
 
Jacqui definitely isn't sweet. She has her moments, but she's the rough one in the group. She'll do anything for her family, at any cost.
