Bryant's bastard brainchild turns 30

Thirty years ago today, voters in Dade County, FL, repealed an ordinance that prohibited discrimination against gays in terms of housing and employment. So that being the case, let's take a second to remember the woman who led the campaign against this and every other gay rights measure of the time, Anita Bryant:



 
She actually said she was on "a crusade to do away with the homosexuals." Wording like that, it sounds like genocide. I've been to church many times in my life, but never once did they preach anything like that.
 
How appropriate for us to discuss this during Pride Month! We must never lose sight of where we have come from.
 
She can't get a gig because no one will do her hair and makeup.
She must be older than God by now.
 
Some of you might be too young to remember specifics of her downfall.
Her big gig was Spokesperson for the Florida Orange Juice Industry.
When she started her hate campaign, patrons of gay bars (and their allies and supporters) accross the country boycotted orange juice (at the time the Screwdriver was a favorite cocktail).
It was the first time, that I know of, that corporate America learned about the power of the Gay dollar and demographics.
She was fired and the rest is history.
 
Did you notice how they referred to the "Self Proclaimed Homosexuals"? That used to be a common catch phrase. It meant someone who had the audacity not to be ashamed of their homosexuality and actually admitted it to people. That was considered a bad thing back then.

Bryant is only 67 years old, surprisingly. She could be around for a long time.
 
Are you sure? I know that Phyllis Schlafly has an openly gay son who works for her conservative Eagle Forum.
 
I've NEVER seen that video, and I must admit I laughed my ass off. That was fricken funny, as rude as it was. OWNED!!!!

Damn, I hate that Bryant has had all those bankruptcies and tax troubles! Yeah, right.
