Horror Movies

It seems like all the movies I,ve seen of late are horror flicks. I love them but movies like HOSTEL are bordering on snuff films.

I love movies like the old B&W 'THE HAUNTING'. There's nothing visually scary but the air of tension and fear scared the hell out of me. Like the bedroom scene, They just zoomed in on the wallpaper and all you heard was background noises and voices...REALLY SCARY!!

i like horror and suspense too. i'm more into troma stuff, so i'm probably on the vanilla side of the horror/thriller spectrum. ..|

my fav is killer kondom... technically not troma, but it is release through them in the united states.

I have been watching Japanese horror lately. Just finished one missed call (1 & 2).

One of the best horror movies ever made.I still get the creeps over the wall paper scene. The remale couldn't even hold a candle to it.

Horror Movies? What other kind ARE there? And I still say that my favourite moment in a horror movie was the end of Carrie when Sue Snell is standing in front of the for sale sign that has "Carie white Burns in Hell" on it and the hands come up out of the gravel to catch her ankles! I jumped THEN and I jump NOW! Yikes! That one scared me! My favourite moment in a horror movie that makes me laugh is when crazy old Mrs. Voorhees is doing the "Kill Her Mommy" "I AM Jason!" thing and some how the girl swings the axe and in one fell swoop severs Betsy Palmers head, and Betsy's hands are raised up kind of clawing atthe air, only headless! I laughed and laughed and alughed! I'm still alughing at that! Leather face didn't scare me, Michael Myers, who didn't see that one coming? vampire movies/ My hope is to BE a vampire. They dont scare me at all!

Lets see, what was that one with the stainless steel ball that hovered through the air ? (my mind is frozen here) had those little monk things from another universe?

I love horror movies!

My Favorites:

The Haunting (1963) - By far the best haunted house movie ever. The breathing door...classic.

Signs - Truly one of the scariest movies I've ever seen. I know it may not be on everyone's favorites list, but I think it really is classic, flawless horror filmmaking. I still can't watch the pantry scenes without wanting to look away from the screen.

The Others - Another classic haunted house movie. I love how a modern film like this can use such old-fashioned horror movie techniques. Atmosphere and good storytelling are far scarier than using CGI ghosts to scare people.

What Lies Beneath - It didn't get the most critical acclaim, but I've always loved this movie. It kinda copped-out with CGI at the end, but, in my opinion, it worked. In any case, the rest of the movie was classic Hitchcock-style filmmaking. It has some fabulous jump-out-of-your-seat scares, too.

Zombie films. If anyone wants to, check out "Dead Alive" directed by Peter Jackson (yes, I know). It's such a cheesy zombie flick with lots of campy gore and it's both funny, gross, and kind of scary. It's like a concentrated Evil dead...almost better, I would say.

I'm a reluctant horror fan. They scare me silly, but I'm fascinated by them and I find the mythos of each storyline interesting.

Right now, my most recent film was the original 'The Shining'. Not screamingly scary, but deeply creepy and terrifying when the lights are out and you're home alone.

That would be "Phantasm". That movie freaked me out when I saw it the first time. I still get the creeps thinking about it.

The Dawn of the Dead remake brought me back to the world of horror, and kind of put my interest back in those old zombie movies. Masters of Horror was helluva' cool, the one season compilation of some of the best known horror directors' (even Argento) one shots. Has anyone seen this? My particular favorites are "Homecoming", "Jennifer", and "The Fair-haired Child".

However, the most freakishly traumatizing film I've ever seen was Stephen King's "It". Damn fucked up film got me scared of clowns for a good decade.

I love the ones that stay true to my early 80s slasher filled youth -Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and so on. In the early ones, you had suspense and gore, not just gore to the extreme.

mikey

I am a horror movie fanatic. Love the classics like Dracula and Frankenstein as well as modern ones like Dawn of the Dead.

Every movie is either a horror movie or a western, if you ask me.

Requiem for a Dream (may not exactly be a horror film, but it made me feel very uncomfortable)

I must agree with you that "Requiem for a Dream" is a "horror" film that is not necessarily a horror film. It disturbed the fuck out of me, and very few true horror films do that for me anymore.

Some other not-necessarily-horror films that I would nevertheless lump in the "horror" category and would highly recommend are:

David Cronenberg's "Crash"

Anything by David Lynch

"In My Skin" (a French film by Francois Ozon protege Marina de Vann about a woman who becomes obsessed with her flesh and self-mutilation after sustaining a leg wound)

Friday the 13th
The Exorcist
The Omen
The Hills Have Eyes
JoyRide (great suspense)

Yeah i agree with these very much, especially the Hills Have Eyes....heard they are making a sequel....i can't wait!!! I just saw the omen last night and it had me really freaked out! I used to really love watching friday the 13th.....that's why i was so excited when they did a freddy vs jason movie

I'd include Michael Haneke's Funny Games and The Piano Teacher as non-genre horror films. If you can find Lodge Kerrigan's Clean Shaven - it may be in DVD limbo - you're in for a harrowing vignette of schizophrenia. As regards Requiem, it's one of the new century's great films. I had to cover my eyes every time Jared Leto's infected arm was onscreen.

Did anyone see the 2nd Exorcist with Richard Burton? I think it was called the Heretic. That movie scared me more than the first one. They name the demon and go into BG info about it. That movie scared the shit out of me when I was little. I thought it was scarier than the first one. Anyone agree or have anything to say about it.

The third one in the exorcist series sucked, when father damian comes back.

I loved what lies beneath. It made me jump out of my seat dozens of time.

I also like all kinds of Vampire movies I dont know what it is about them they just do it for me. Bram Stoker's Dracula came out when I was in 3rd grade and scared me pretty bad. I thought Gary Oldman was under my bed for the longest time. has anyone ever seen Blacula?

The Mothman Prophecies was REALLY GOOD! That movie got me going for awhile.

House of 1,000 corpses just disturbed me.

I thought the idea of an American haunting was good but the ending ruined the film.

Did anyone see the NBC miniseries Revelations? I thought that was pretty good.

End Of Days and Stigmata were good too.

I can't think of anything else#-o
