LOS ANGELES (AP) - Nadya Suleman apparently has bigger worries than taking care of her 14 children. Talk show host Dr. Phil McGraw says she may have to prove she can handle the load, or else have hospital officials withhold her newborn octuplets.
McGraw said the 33-year-old unemployed mother called him Tuesday, distraught that Kaiser Permanente officials told her they were concerned about the babies living at her home in suburban Los Angeles.
"What she is telling me is that unless and until she has a better living arrangement, that they are not likely to release the children to her," McGraw told the Los Angeles Times.
Suleman has taped two episodes of McGraw's "Dr. Phil" show. The first was scheduled to air Wednesday.
Suleman gave birth to the octuplets Jan. 26 in Kaiser's hospital in nearby Bellflower. She has six other children, lives in her mother's three-bedroom home in Whittier and relies on food stamps and disability income to provide for them. The home is under threat of foreclosure and could be sold at auction beginning May 5 because Suleman's mother is $23,225 behind in her mortgage payments, property records show.
Kaiser officials declined to comment on Suleman's case.
"Any conversations that the mother may or may not have had on this topic are private and we could not discuss them," said Kaiser spokesman Jim Anderson.
Social workers evaluate parents of very premature babies to determine what services the children and family may be entitled to, said Vicky Bermudez, a neonatal intensive care unit nurse at the Kaiser hospital in Roseville.
The octuplets were born nine weeks premature.
"If they feel there's a risk to a baby, they contact Child Protective Services and Child Protective Services would make a determination as to whether or not there's a reason for concern," Bermudez said.
A call to the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services was not returned Tuesday night.
Suleman has not responded to repeated interview requests from The Associated Press. Her phone has been disconnected and she no longer has a publicist. ---

Porn company Vivid Entertainment offers $1.54 million to octuplets mother (Octomom)

Porn firm wants 'Octomom' in hardcore Movie.

VIVID Entertainment has made a million ($1.54 million) offer to Nadya Suleman to make a pornographic video.

In an offer letter obtained by TMZ.com, the president of the pornography studio and distributor Steven Hirsch says the company would release the film under their "Vivid-Celeb imprint, which has released titles starring such personalities as Pamela Anderson, Kim Kardashian, and most recently, former Miss USA Kelli MCarty."

The site also reports that the company is offering her family dental and health care if she agrees to star in a series of films.

Suleman, 33, known as "Octomom" after giving birth to octuplets earlier this year, has reportedly not replied to the request.

Suleman gave birth to the octuplets on January 26 in a Californian hospital. She has six other children, and has said all 14 of her children were conceived through in vitro fertilisation, with sperm from an unidentified, platonic friend, The Associated Press reports.

Meanwhile, TV talk show host Dr Phil McGraw tells the Los Angeles Times Suleman told him that she feared the hospital may not release her newborn octuplets to her.

"What she is telling me is that unless and until she has a better living arrangement, that they are not likely to release the children to her," McGraw said

Health/Social Services have the right to make sure the mother is able to provide a safe and healthy environment. This is the approach used in cases of extremely inadequate parental skills or risky environments.

I don't think the medical team is willing to waste all the energy, money and medical resources used to keep those poor kids alive.

am i the only one, who is'nt jumping on the "attack octo-mom" wagon. they need to leave that lady alone. it's her life, her babies. let's see if she can prove to be mother worthy, if not then action need to be taken. i agree when people say her having 14 babies, is diffrent than a couple have 14, but it's like geez, give the woman a chance. maybe she'll realize what she did and why? and she'll call on the biological father for help, then i bet there would'nt be anymore attack on her.

Social Services should step in and see if she is fit to take care of any of her children. she should have to provide proof of adequate and sufficent housing and monetary funds to support and maintain these children.

i think serious thought should be given to having all of these children placed in good adoptive homes.

i think Social Services has the right to request from the courts a complete psychiatric examination of this women to determine how fit she is to parent even the six children she has now let alone the 8 more she has waiting for her.

three of her current children are listed as disabled although i don't know what mention there has been of the nature of their disabilities.

at this point there is probably no way of telling if any of the eight new born babies might be disabled also.

she has used and manipulated these children for her own best interests and has really shown little if any concern for their over all well being and future. sure a lot of people may want to step in an volunteer to help raise these children but the fact remains that she herself is incapable of doing so herself. who knows what psychological damage she has done and or will do to these fourteen innocent children - they are the ones who are going to have to live with the background and childhood she has failed to provide for them.

these young children are probably going to need extensive counseling and therapy to deal with the circumstances they have been raised in unless proper and caring homes can be provided for them.

I have a serious feeling that the responses to this will be intense, but I'll share it anyway. I personally am tired of seeing this woman. This country is facing an epidemic of pregnant women who can't financially afford to support the child. I think, on a deeper level, she's somehow a public representation of that whole movement. Being a recipient of welfare in the 1980's was thought to be degrading, even when it was genuinely deserved. Becoming a baby machine has become a lucrative career for many of these people. We've all seen this: the man and woman don't get married. In between inadvertent fits of fighting, they live together; his name is not on the lease. He works full time, while she collects welfare. They continue having sex, having children and living life. Meanwhile, welfare (a.k.a the taxpayer) is paying to care for every child these people produce. Whether it be Social Security, Disability, or Welfare, too many of these people are breeding and collecting unchecked.

Much like "Octomom", not enough women or men are being responsible about reproduction. I have been paying taxes for many years, so forgive me if I don't toast this woman's proud accomplishment of multiple production. Let me be clear. There are those who inadvertently face circumstances and must take assistance. I do not think this should be a shameful experience. However, this woman, nor anyone, should be having a child when they knowingly cannot support them. She already has six children-then purposely gets impregnated and has 8 more?! She, along with many, seem to be enjoying a sense of entitlement with regard to financial assistance. I understand and respect those of you who can feel sorry for her; I cannot. She is an extreme example of the droves who are sucking dry the resources of a country already battling for its financial survival.
