Hospital May Not Release Babies to 'Octa-Mom'.

octa- mom... it's like they're down playing the fact she has seven more... they need a catchy 14-babies-crazy-mom nickname to make her seem even worse

But, for the sake of argument... Are we crossing a new line here ?

Let's face it, there are lots of Moms that give birth to just a single baby with no means to support it properly.

Is it the hospital's job to decide who is allowed to take home their children and who isn't ?

Will you have to pass a credit check to bring your baby home ?

Now, I know we are dealing with multiple children and a case that is under a lot of media attention, but we have to be careful with what precedent we are setting...
 
I have stayed away from this story as it just seemed so odd. I just saw her on the news and that woman is fucking looped out of her mind.
Those babies should not be given to her. And I hope they take a good look at her other six children.
 
SextOctoMom is most likely seriously mentally ill and (media deals and porn offers aside) appears to financially incapable of supporting her family. And, by the way, what contribution to these kids is the "father" making (apart from the occasional jar of sperm)?

The needs of the children should take precedence over her irrational "need" to have loads of babies.

Personally I'd like to see the babies adopted (or at least fostered). If she has coped with the six older kids then let her carry on (but she needs to be sterilised and be treated for her mental health issues).
 
Hi guys, I got 14 kids, no job, and $50k of college tuition owed. I'm a going back to college and getting a consoler's degree. Then I be makin $4 million dollars a year...enough to raise all kids!

This still makes me chuckle. Finally I see someone (hospital) has some sanity.

I think many good points have been made here. Clearly, I am not supporting eugenics here. I simply don't understand the act of procreation without conscience. Albert Einstein defined insanity as "“doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results”. What has she learned about the significant need for monetary resources while caring for her six previous children? She obviously doesn't have a realistic grasp on the basics for rearing children. She, before the pregnancy, was already living with her mother in an overcrowded home. None of her actions speak to me as someone who should be shaping the lives of young people. Just because you can have children doesn't necessarily mean you should. As adults, we all are subjected to limits for our own good. From credit to cocktails, harm springs from excess. However, because we're speaking about the production of other human beings, we have to tread lightly with regard to personal values. I believe that this woman should, at the very least, be asked to undergo some psychological battery of tests to ensure that she's at least emotionally capable to take on the task. When it comes to 'feelings', I'm not thinking of her. I'm asking myself what I would say to the kids 18 years from now when they ask why nobody did a thing.

In response to your question about "who should control 'breeding'...how many children should someone be allowed to have". That's a truly tough issue. Countries across the globe have been stigmatized for their dubious decisions regarding compulsory sterilization or controlled birth rates. What we must consider is this: Will our country face an epidemic of financial disaster as a result of walking on moral eggshells? Remember that we ARE the people, so the largest segment of responsibility falls on us. If our collective bounty of 'system babies' outnumbers those funds available, we'll be throwing ourselves into the arms of a massive financial depression that most viewers here have never imagined.
 
Is she gave a DAMN about those babies at all, she wouldn't simply throw away that offer for free care (for the eight, or for all 14?) children which some organization just made. Why are the evangelicals completely silent about this clear abuse of humanity? These 8 children are clearly in harm's way, and if she gets custody something tells me that within a year there will be stories about at least one of them dying.

I mean, what we're really talking about here is money.

If I have a billion dollars in the bank, what's wrong with me wanting to have all the children I want ? If I can afford it, is it really anyone else's business ?

Look at Brad and Angelina. They're celebrated, (and made fun of, too, yes...) for adopting all of those children. But, no one is suggesting they should stop doing so. Why ? Because they are rich celebrities.

Perhaps the government should establish a sliding scale. Make under $12,000 a year ? Only one baby for you.
 
I have to say that I agree with Joshua here. The 'sliding scale' would be ideal. I realize that this is, in itself, a discrimination of those who are 'financially challenged" members of this country. However cruel that may sound, something has to be done about this type of breeding without conscience. It only makes sense, for the parent as much as the child, to only sire enough children that one can afford to care for. The continuing trend of having as many children as you like and never considering how you will provide for them must end. Once again, I believe Joshua's suggestion for a sliding scale is a great idea!
 
Is no one else wanting to know HOW IN THE HELL she afforded invitro to begin with? She's on welfare and collecting food stamps and can't pay the mortgage on the house she lives in with her mother... but she can afford the 4000-15000 PER CYCLE of invitro? REALLY?

IMO people on welfare SHOULD NOT be allowed to have kids (I mean actually producing kids WHILE ON WELFARE). I'm sorry, but if you're going to ask me, John Q. Taxpayer to pick up your tab you don't get to sit there and say "while we're at it, lets add on to that tab since you're paying"

Birth control should be mandatory (and free) for people on welfare, and if you got pregnant and have a kid while on welfare then you lose custody of that child.

I am in favor of welfare in general, but when people are willing to bring kids into this world without any concern as to how they're going to care for them financially then you lose your right to be a parent to that child.
