One Chicago dog with a side of broccoli, please.

I've long held the view that Sprouts were awesome and Hot Dogs were vile.

Did Hot Dog eaters seriously not know that shit is bad for them? REALLY?

I also learnt in high school that because they contain so much nitrate for preservation, if you eat too many hot dogs, they may split your chromosomes, create genetic defects :D.

The funny thing is, I actually think Brussels Sprouts are really good when they're lightly steamed, with salt, pepper and a little lemon juice.

So are we talking about bad hot dogs or bad Brussel sprouts here?

I only eat lean turkey or chicken dogs, which taste great and are far healthier.

I don't eat Beef. Well, not Cow Beef. ;) I cut that crap out of my diet years ago, well over a decade.

Holy hell... there is nothing better than a hot dog cooked over an open fire.. put the dog on the end of a stick you got from the forest, or use a metal hot dog stick..

roast them over the fire, turing them slowly.. guys there is not a thing wrong with having four or five hot dogs over the course of a year..

Holy cow... anyone of you that has not had the opportunity to cook a hotdog over an open fire in a campground has missed out on one of the finest things in life..

Picutre this.. you are in a campground, or at a friend cabin in the mountains..

You have a nice fire burning at dusk or later... the fire has settled down.. the coals are hot.. you put the hotdog on the end of a stick... maybe have a cold beer with you..
kids love this too.
you put the dog on the end of the stick.. you just let it slowly get brown.. turn round and round..
The air is cool, the fire is warm... you are with your freinds, maybe their kids too..

bet the dog nice and brown on the outside.. put it inside a fresh bun and add ketchup or mustard or both... maybe relsih..

and you will not have a finer mountain meal in the world..
Do it a couple of times a year and you will be safe.. haha... a few hot dogs a year are not going to kill you..
And they are utterly delicious as cooked as I described..

Hogdogs are not evil.. perhaps if you ate them everyday they may be... everything in moderation.
Anything in moderation is fine.

Of note:

They found that on average, each 1.8 oz (50 grams) daily serving of processed meat a day -- one to two slices of deli meats or one hot dog -- was associated with a 42 percent higher risk of heart disease and a 19 percent higher risk of developing diabetes.

So.....Eat your veggies!!!! Including brussel sprouts

One or two slices of deli meat is just as bad for you as a hot dog?!

For those who haven't read the article, processed meats, such as hot dogs, deli meats, bacon and other smoked, salted and otherwise cured meats are the problem. Fresh meats, cooked as you would have them, are okay.

Well distilled, and an accurate assessment.

Best to avoid charcoal cooking of meats on barbecue stoves.

But wait, aren't there different types of hotdogs? Maybe it's the cheap brands that are a health concern. I always thought that the Fat-free Beef Franks and Ball Park Lite Beef Franks were healthier for us?

Man, is anything healthy anymore?

I love charcuterie, both the making and the eating. I tend to think life without andouille isn't worth living. But who needs a study to tell them not to eat it every day?

As a defender of the noble tradition of preserving meats I would question an author who states:

"When we looked at average nutrients in unprocessed red and processed meats eaten in the United States, we found that they contained similar average amounts of saturated fat and cholesterol," Micha said

Hilariously wrong: processed meats have gigantically huger amounts of saturated fats. What's she talking about? Does she know what a salami is?

I was invited to this event. (OK, it was a mass text message. But I'm on the casino's list.)

I'd never compete!

Click the link if you have to know more. http://blogs.atlanticcityweekly.com...weenie-eating-contest-returns-to-trump-plaza/

According to a press release, top-ranked major-league eaters will assemble at Trump Plaza’s Beach Bar in Atlantic City on Saturday, May 29, to vie for the title of New Jersey Hot Dog Eating Champion. The N.J. champion will get the chance to compete at the 95th annual Nathan’s Famous July Fourth International Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island, N.Y., where three-time defending national champion Joey Chestnut of San Jose, Cal., consumed 68 Nathan’s Famous hot dogs and buns in 10 minutes to set a new world record in 2009.

I think if most of us knew what *really* went into hot dogs, we'd never eat them again...

But, screw it. They're tasty, so I'll remain in denial.

Someone should ask Jasun. He has a rather unique approach to eating one...

How about pork dogs. They product a wonderful sauce when handled properly. (!)
