Not much of a story here, frankly. It took less than 24 hours for them to find the money someplace.
Even though they did find offsets for the appropriations, I still think this is about messaging. As you know, Ron Paul has been a consistent non-supporter of FEMA or government assistance of any kind due to disasters, and if left to him, victims would be on their own (a very strict libertarian perspective of the role of government).
You kind of expect this perspective from Ron Paul. But Cantor is in a GOP leadership position, and his political posturing (he and the rest of us know they aren't going to simply pray for the Joplin victims and wave bye-bye) sends a message that appears to be heartless to the average joe. Why step on your political crank to make the point about the need for balanced budget? We get it. Wrong event to use as a lecturing moment.
