House OK's Debt Bill; Senate Rejects It.

The Republicans would rather have this debate in 6 months because they want to force the government into dysfunction right in the middle of Obama's re-election.
So this whole debate is not so much about debt or fiscal policy, but just a game to try and make Obama look bad.
All politics, plain and simple...

A comment from the article above.

Answers my own question.

Harry Reid and the POTUS will tweak Boehner's plan every so slightly and run it back thru and it will pass.

My prediction

I hope the tweek includes getting rid of the "Super Congress". I think is a waste of time, if regular Congress drags ass, a super congress will do the same and I"m sure they will get some "bonus' money for being a part of it and they will just go back and forth until either party gets what i wants. Just a waste of time, IMO.

Yeah I am not a fan of changing our system because it is inconvenient to difficult legislation. In fact I think that makes our system beautiful and resilient to odd changes.

Agreed.

Republicans always win these arguments.

Always.

The Dems could easily steal the Republicans destroy the earth thunder by passing this and then demanding that both houses work through non stop the passage of realistic legislation to reduce deficit, balance the budget and cut everything on the spreadsheet. Nothing Sacred.

They simply deadlock the houses and refuse to allow anything to pass without first resolving the issues at hand.

They are afraid if they do so they will be label obstructionist and removed from office. The Republicans have proven that if they have good counterpoints the base will follow and even vehemently defend their blocking tactics.

Of course that would have meant no end to DADT, No healthcare, no etc etc etc... if they had done this when they knew it was an issue to be confronted.

Frankly, I think it will be best for America in the long run to let the Republican's sail it over the cliff. It will be extremely painful for the next 2 or 3 years if they do it; but Republicans will then be barred from office by the voters for a generation, which means ultimately on a 25 year time-frame it is probably a good thing overall.

If Obama is cornered and forced into using his emergency powers, it will only insure his reelection and ultimate domination over the Republican terrorists.

And yes, they are terrorists! Just because someone isn't brown skinned and Muslim doesn't mean there aren't people out there trying to destroy America from the inside. The Republicans are carrying on economic war against Americans.

Due to your location you have no ability to listen to AM radio. I sometimes have to turn the shit off when they get so ridiculous I wanna punch out my car window. However, since I have been driving hundreds of miles and often in the sticks all that there is to listen to is Alien Matrix radio I get an ear full and you know what? Their callers are even more rabid about the issues and are buying every word. If this economy runs off a cliff it will definitely cost many republican and democrat jobs BUT it will will not doubt whatsoever remove Obama from office.

The idea is nonsense my friend. All we would get would be third world debtor status, no economy and republican/ tea party centric leadership. No the time to run away is not now. This is a time to stand and fight.

That's because in this fight only the Democrats (and a few Republicans) care about the country's health. The Tea Potty Rethuglicans care only about winning their childish fight, and damn the consequences for everyone else.

In a game of chicken the guy who's actually willing to crash his car wins. Too bad for his passengers though.

I guess my larger idea was that by stopping the federal government from paying Social Security, federal unemployment, Medicare, Medicaid, highway funding, national parks, etc... that the average Tea Party Joe would be smacked upside the head with just how much the federal government is supporting them, and how much they need them.

I've sat next to federal government haters who log trees on national park / properties for a living, as well as anti-government engineers who work at Rockwell Collins / Lockheed even as they are paid by their companies to work on federal / military projects. Not to mention all the other nuts I've had the displeasure of meeting while flying / traveling when back in America.

I think it's time for these people to see just how indebted they are to the federal government either directly, or their siblings / parents / children / etc...

MoltenRock, it's not worth it. SERIOUSLY not worth it.

The Tea Potty attitude is "we won't even talk to you unless you give us everything we've ever dreamed of as a precondition." They are stupid, willfully ignorant, and absolutely without honor.

If they all dropped dead, I'd cry over their graves.

For values of 'cry' that actually amount to 'piss', that is.

I agree, don't get me wrong! As I said, this will be painful.... VERY PAINFUL if they sail the country over the cliff. At least for 2 or 3 years. I'm sure I'd have to end up helping my siblings out with money / jobs / etc...

Additionally, if they do this, it will virtually insure that America loses it's lead in the world; and especially with regard to the US Dollar as the fiat currency. The Asian countries would look for an alternative, one that is safer, and more predictable than the US Dollar. Would that end up being the Yen? The Renminbi? The Won? Who knows?

I get ya. And in theory that idea would work. But in targeting the cuts in such a way the baggers would then spin the table just a bit further and directly blame dems for the cuts and they would win because Americans have the attention span of a gnat in heat.

No unfortunately for some odd reason the Republicans are very good at the game of getting the word out. The last democratic rally took eight years of rallying around hating one man... not a party but one man. Now that man is gone so is the rally.

I got one of those recently, too. It seems Laika has taken to just making little insults with no other content through the Comment system, rather than trying to actually engage in the conversation in the thread.

^ Interesting that you both have also been getting these types of comments as well from the Laika. I've had a number of them recently.

Laika apparently doesn't even want to bother debating issues in the threads anymore....he just leaves snide comments about the posts.
