Neither fun nor traumatic. PE at school was tedious and completely uninspiring. I hated it and have had absolutely no interest in playing or watching sport ever since.

Definitely the same for me. I am very self conscious so I tried to get out of PE many times. The annoying part is when I had to run laps in front of everyone just because I was late for class. Very embarrassing.Grade school: I refused to take part, but to move on I had to so my mother came during PE time and we did one on one. For 6th grade I did do a few things, but I refused to put in any effort.
Middle school: For middle school I was in private school and I lived on a farm with many animals. I got credit for taking care of the animals. Chasing pig, etc. and bucking hay was a decent work out.
High School: For high school I once again refused to take part in PE, but to graduate I have to do something. I was made a student teacher in the DLC (the highly disabled kids class) during their PE classes and I went and helped them. I also became a Special Olympics coach during that time. Mostly I just watched the other kids so they would not wonder off and get hurt, but I also played a bit of games with them.
I now realize I refused because I hate people paying attention to me. It makes me self conscious and really self conscious if I was attracted to them. So for me the work arounds worked, but it would have been hell without the work arounds and I would have dropped out.

I quite agree. It isn’t very friendly to everyone and really needs some work to change that. For 6th grade Mr. Lemon made me do laps, but I refused to run so I walked. I could tell it made him mad, but as a fat kid there was no way I could run a mile.
PE can really be hell for certain kids for a lot of reasons. PE should be rethought out and make it better and fun for all.
There was a story about a teacher who created a program for an overweight kid that involved him walking home from school and then longer and longer distances. The teacher also helped the kid with nutrition education. Over the course of the year, he lost all his excess weight and started running and exercising...this is what PE should be, as well as playtime for the active kids who love athletics. For 6th grade Mr. Lemon made me do laps, but I refused to run so I walked. Well done you...hopefully you still play?PE was mandatory for us, all through high school. I was lucky - suffered from heart trouble (later resolved) & had music as a school subject, so I convinced the school board to allow me to practice piano during PE periods! Missed out on seeing the other boys undress though ...
You play piano? I do, too. Do you have specific songs you like playing on the piano?PE was mandatory for us, all through high school.
