Both jobs I have were places that friends of mine worked, so they pretty much got me in.....and I've been at one for 9 years and the other for 6 lol

I applied for a entry-level position that I found online on a career website. However, when I went to the interview, they said "WTF why are you applying for this? wanna be in this role instead?" .... didn't even check references, handshake, got called that afternoon that I was in.

Has been about 1.5 years and 4 promotions since that time, now getting restless and looking for more training or more promotions.

Companies there have a 'diversity quota' ? thats hillarious.

I have to admit, though, I am one of about 3 white guys at my workplace, the rest are maori, tongan, other cook islanders for the customer service/general staff, and mostly middle eastern for our support staff.

Mostly for the reason you said though, friends and family get strings pulled haha.

edit: maybe I was part of a reverse diversity quota haha....

My dad works at the same company, but diffrent department. He saw a job he thought I would be interested in doing. He presented the idea to me, sure enough I started working my way toward it.

As soon as I had all my qualifications earned and served my internship, I filled out the paperwork and was soon employed.

I told the guy in charge I wanted a job... and if he didn't give me one, in 3 weeks I would have to move into his office cause I wouldn't be able to afford rent after that.

I said to my partner - lets start a computer company. So we bought a computer, wrote the accounting software. Then we went to sell it and many people bought it cos it was very good. We are still running the company 25 years later.

Thats the short version though.

I have never looked for a job in my life, they have always been offered to me.

In other cases I have made my own jobs.

I cannot imagine working for a boss. I think we would part ways before a week was up.

I've had my job for 4 years now, I got hired through a friend that was working there. Its always good to have connections ..|

Same concept -- slightly different story... ..|

My best friend and I worked together for 5 years. The company downsized and my friend lost his job. Then they cut me to part time and I had to work another part time job. I did that for about a year or so and in the mean time my best friend started a business. It grew and one day he called me and asked me if I'd like to work with him again and we negotiated a deal and I took it. It was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Been there over 5 years now and we're still best friends. We work together very well and he pays me very well. I feel extremely blessed and fortunate. The business has had its ups and downs but we have managed to make it work. I love my job.

I'd been drinking rather heavily one night and surfing the Interwebz. Saw a job ad and applied for it. The rest is History.

A friendly reminder from the Old Fart: Kids, DON'T apply for a job while you've been drinking. :D

i found it on a government search site and have been there for 4 years. i was actually surprised they hired me, but looking back i shouldn't have been.

Job site. Responded to a job ad on the internet, got a call right away, and was offered the job in less than two weeks. I guess I was just very lucky.

Through my friend. My friend's mother is the head at a daycare center for mentally disabled kids/teens. I needed a summer job and they needed people for the summer. I've known my friend for years and she and her mother are very close (so I know her rather well too). She told me the job was mine if I wanted it since she knew she could trust me and I'm studying Psychology so it'd be great experience for me. This summer will be the second summer I work there and I can't wait until I start :D

I went into a Target store and applied...good college job, worked my way up to a manager position, then transferred to another store in Minneapolis and applied for a corporate office position. I've been in my current role for almost a year now and am starting to look at advancing to a different one.

when i was in high school, i was applying for jobs, and had only gotten one call back. the manager asked me to come in for the interview, and pretty much hired me on the spot. (she said it was because she liked my eyes.) i had a friend who's wife was a manager at one of the jobs i held, and i got my other job through my mom's ex boyfriend. i went back to my first company of employment, and was rehired because they wouldnt have to train me very much because i was already experienced.
