  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How did you quit smoking?

I didn't, I've tried to quit god knows how many times, but within a week or two i'm back on the cigs.

But now i'm out of college and prepping for Uni I'm gonna give it another shot, I have no stress or money, so now seems the best time so far. Replacing the cigs with exercise as someone mentioned has helped me alot so far,
cutting down from about 20 a day to around 10-12, still quite high but it's going down :D

I've been smoke free for 12 months after a 20 year habit. I went cold turkey. I was just so fed up with it, it's such an inconvenience to smoke these days. It's so hard to begin with. What kept me going is that you soon begin to realise how much smokers stink. Their clothes, their breath. It's horrible. I can't believe that I must have stank like that. Bleurgh. Good luck.

Gum is bad for your teeth and I didn't wanna rock those dreadful patches, my method is fullproof. I spend all of my money the moment I get it. No $ = no cigarettes. And thanks to the internet it's easier than ever to get rid of money. I've paid my phone bill up to February, bought a shit-ton of stock, I'm taking my niece to the movies and getting some tattoos tomorrow, completely random ways to get rid of money so that the opportunity never presents itself for me to purchase smokes. The best part is I'm buying services so it's not like my house is gonna get cluttered with things. I know it sounds obnoxious but I haven't had a cigarette in 3 weeks, that's the longest I've gone in 6 years. :gogirl:

Good luck. It's not easy but completely worth it being smoke-free!!!

I celebrated 10 yrs this past Feb. Never cheated. Once. How did I quit? I'm Catholic so I tried giving it up for Lent (40 days). It worked. I put on some initial weight, hated going out because nothing went better with beer than a cigarette so I found an outlet (running). I feel better, sleep better, smell better and have a lot more money!

Congrats on 3 weeks! Take it one day at a time. Avoid talking about smoking. And 3 weeks will turn into 3 months in no time. :)
