  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How do you fall asleep.

I do what any man does when he can't sleep *|* and so pathetic as it sounds if I have extra problems sleeping I hug my pillow or my stuffed bear and I sleep like a little children.

I sometimes hug my pillow, too.

Not worry about it. If I have trouble sleeping one night, I probably have a better chance sleeping the next night.

I work a job where sleep deprivation is part of the conditions. I take whatever I can get. Best not to worry about it or else you'll never get to sleep.

I fall asleep pretty easily...the first time. I usually sleep for about 3 to 4 hours, then wake up for some reason. I can't get back to sleep no matter how hard I try. Then I'm tired for the rest of the day because I only got 3 or 4 hours of sleep. But even though I'm tired, I can't sleep.

Takes a lot of liquor. If I go to bed sober I'll be awake till very late then have interrupted sleep. If I'm not already social drinking, 5 shots are needed for sleep. Just a habit, what can ya say.

Falling asleep isn't so hard - it's waking up during the night or very early that is. So, I usually get up, and make myself some calming tea. melatonin helps a little but not much...

LOL same here... the rest of the time its laying off to the side of the bed out of the way

As far as how I fall asleep...I just lay in bed till it happens. Sometimes(not very often) I fall asleep quickly...but most of the time i just lay there for an hour or more with my mind endlessly running worthless thoughts like, how nice it'd be to have a boyfriend, or about some crap from work, or something i need to get done at home.

Also how long it takes depends on how comfortable I am, some nights I just can't get comfortable.

In the summer there's many nights when the temp is above 90F in my bedroom which just makes sleeping harder

I can't sleep with the Stereo or TV on (and in the summer that'd just add more heat anyway)
And I need some light too...

Never have a problem falling asleep. I sometimes have a problem waking up after a couple of hours or more and thinking...thinking...thinking for an hour or two before I get back to sleep. It's particularly bad in the summer when the light enters our bedroom early and I never get back to sleep at all. My partner falls asleep immediately and stays deeply asleep no matter what--he sleeps through earthquakes, loud parties, droning airplane engines, everything.

I read until I feel tired, then turout the light and go to sleep. I occasionally have bouts of insomnia. I've started treating those differently. You know sometimes you fall behind, and you wish there were more hours in the day? Guess what? When you have insomnia, there are suddenly more hours in the day. :) so I get up and get caught up on all that crap I haven't gotten done. Hoisework, backing up my computer, all those emails I haven't written yet, next weekend's work.

I'm assuming I read the OP correctly.

I've always been fortunate and rarely have had problems falling asleep. It's the getting up part that I need help with.

I don't usually have trouble sleeping. I normally play BBC Radio 4 on a timer and that does the trick, especially after midnight when they play the BBC World Service which is so tedious I'd challenge anyone to remain awake.

Last night I drifted off whilst watching the tediously over-long Olympic opening ceremony on TV.

Normally my routine makes me fall right to sleep after clean-up. *|*

Between working third shift when I was younger and spending time in the military, I can pretty much sleep whenever I need to. We used to joke about how some soldiers must have a kill switch in their ass because as soon as their ass hits the seat of a Humvee they were passed out...

On the rare occasions that I have trouble sleeping, I try to think about my body like a computer shutting down... I stop thinking about whatever is on my mind and control my breathing and just focus on shutting down my body until I'm asleep. It usually works for me.

I just put my head on the pillow and off I go to la-la land

Poorly; is the short answer.

My brain just sometimes decides its not tired, even though my body certainly feels it, and I end up usually surfing the web until all odd hours of the evening. Every once in awhile, I do manage to fall asleep easily, but those are rare evenings indeed.

I cuddle with my iPad and listen to a TED talk. Always pick one at least 15 minutes and I drift off to the sounds of intelligence

So, as with me sometimes (perhaps one night out of six, with NO pattern!), you'll just lie there, thinking: "Good evening brain...good evening brain...BRAIN...SHUT UP!!! (and, if it works...) Thank you." LOL - yes I know the feeling

I've always had trouble falling sleep ever since I was kid. When I was a kid I was bullied endlessly at school, so I always wanted to make the night last as long as possible before I had to wake up to the morning and face another day in school. So in simple terms as a kid I was scared of falling asleep because I know it would only be one more day of pain afterwards. (snip)

Hating school, I used to do the same. Always reckoned it buggered up my sleep pattern. Now I go to bed and hope for the best.
