How long after you've had sex

I'm not denying it was a silly thing to do, however, judging him wont make the situation any better.

And sorry, I don't agree with "You cant help someone when the stupid thing they did was done. "

Giving him the information desired would be helpful, instead of leaving bitchy comments.

I do agree with the majority of your points though :)

His judgement was stupid, not him persay, we all have and or will make mistatkes.

but this one make no sence what so ever, because one already knows the chances that this could bring to him and or others incl family.

he knew before the sex he had the dangers, it's not like it all brand new to him and us.

thtas the part I'm saying was based on stupidity, that part only.

anyone of us knows the dangers of unprotected sex and to continue to do it is the stupid part..

as I said I hope to god he is and will be ok and does not do this again.

I for one value my life and other's, life is to short and hard enough as it is.

I wish he use better judgement next time and wish him well..

I have a question that is somewhat related to this topic. After a person gets tested, in the mornin, for HIV is it possible to know the results later that day or even the next day? I always thought that it took several days or weeks to find out the test results.

It's taken me anywhere from four days up to a week and a half, depending on where I got tested. But that's in Europe, so YMMV. I have, I think, heard of same-day test results in the US, though.

Yes, there is a same-day results method, two in fact. One is a bloodless one (based on saliva), but that one got a lot of false positives, so they stopped using it. The other one is (I think) a finger-prick* test. Both get results in a few minutes IIRC.

At GMHC in NYC they'll actually give you a certificate that says you were tested on such and such date, by such and such person using such and such test, and your results. No one has ever asked to see my certificate yet, but it's nice to know I have it!
____
*Which does NOT mean you're supposed to finger your prick while taking it!

I would recommend getting a rapid test immediately just to set a baseline: be sure of your status before the latest incident. Then test again in three months to confirm your status hasn't changed in the interim.

A second thought be sure is incorrect. The results of any rapid test say nothing about the 3 month winow period.

It's kind of cool, though, how they do the rapid test. They pick a finger, put a drop of blood on a specimen collector, set a timer for tweny minutes and wait to see if two lines form (I believe). They turn the indicator around so you can't see it.

They know within 5 minutes, usually, if you're HIV positive, but they don't turn the tester back around and show it to you until the full twenty minutes have passed.

And while this is going on, they're making small talk to keep you distracted.

Ideally, and if feasible, you could ask the source to rapid test with you, just to clear the air.

Another option is to visit an emergency room (immediately) and consult with a medical professional regarding PEP. They may or may not recommend a 28 day course of anti-viral treatment, as the the drugs are toxic and very hard on the body. This treatment is generally recommended in cases of rape, or when the source is known or strongly believed to be positive.

There's no evidence that the other party is positive (the odds are against it), and even if so, it's still unlikey that infection would occur from a single exposure. So don't get worried by every little ache or pain, and see this as a learning experience.

Take care Rain. I think you'll be just fine.

Not paying attention enough, as two high profile guys post here quite regularly.

But whether they are "open" about it or not is a mystery even to me. Considering the things people do say here, it's not a shock to me that there aren't more.

No doubt. I've thought about that several times.

It's cool. I knew what I was doing was 600 kinds of stupid, but I just had to try it like a moron. I did know the guy, but that doesn't mean anything much. Fortunately I do know a place that does free HIV testing.

For a lot of people, all it takes is one time doing unprotected sex to become HIV+ forever. I hope you didn't catch anything. It's good that you know it's stupid but even stupider that you knew it was stupid and still did it. Don't do it again, even if you come back negative because the next time you might not be as lucky.
