How many jubbers buy "Store Brand"food items

IO don't recall if it is the same elsewhere as it is here - but in Aus, by law the manufacturers must list the composition of the food products:
It usually shows the amount (per 100gms) of such things as Energy/Protein/Fat/Carbohydrate/Sugar/Sodium, etc.

Point is - if you look at a 'name' brand and a 'generic' brand - you quite often find two that are EXACTLY and COMPLETELY the same...and often the generic is only 2/3 the price.

In those instances - I buy the generic....because I know it is the same product - just with different packaging.

Also when it comes to certain things I'll automatically buy the 'no-name' brand - f'rinstance, soda water. I mean, carbonated water is carbonated water - what's the difference?...

I too was raised on that apparently gay staple "Hellmans Mayonaise", or as it is known west of the Rocky Mountains "Best Foods" brand ...
Heh...

Ahh, Kenny, I love the fact that you know that.... I'm not the only one.

Sorry guys, but I can't skimp on the mayo... It's Hellman's or nothing.

For those of you that shop at Publix, their store brand sausage is surprisingly good... Really, it is. No fat at all...you actually have to add a little oil to the pan when yer frying it up....

( oh, GOD...I'm talking about frying sausage on JUB.... meh, I'm going to bed.)

I live for store brand everythinggggg

acme brand grape soda 12 for $2? HELL YEAH!

Depends on what we're buying. Some types of store brand cereal is every bit as good as the name brand and some times a buck or more cheaper. Other things we don't dare.

I've just experienced Winn-Dixie brand fish sticks.

Please kill me.
My sympathies.

A few years ago, I went down the frozen food aisle, and for some strange reason, went down nostalgia lane and decided that I suddenly needed to have fish sticks. So I bought them from SuperTarget (Archer Farms brand)... and almost vomited when I ate them.

Never again.

LOL...

next time, skip the fish sticks, and go directly for the pint of Haagen Dazs Chocolate......screw dinner....
Words of wisdom.

I don't know what the hell I was thinking. It's like Lube said, it was sort of like a trip down nostalgia lane... "Hey ! I used to love fish sticks when I was a kid... and they're cheap ! I think I'll try them !"

*sheesh*

Well, either fish sticks have changed since then, or I have, or both.

I'd throw the rest out the back door, but I don't want to kill the grass.

There are very few items that I insist on name brands, otherwise store/generic brands are fine for me. The one thing that comes to mind is Cheerios - I once got the Vons store brand "O's" - they literally tasted like cardboard. So, I buy either name brand Cheerios, or "Joe's O's" from Trader Joes, which tend to be cheaper and are just as good.

:-)

I go to the corner store and I buy 2 (2 litre) pops for $5.

I was uptown and stocked up on 99 cent pop which tastes fine. I bought 8 bottles and it was $8.

If I bought that at the corner store, it would be $20. I saved $12!!!!!

I have noticed when people do taste tests, the no name brand will win sometimes.

There was a vodka drinking test and everyone was into Grey Goose. Most end up choosing a different vodka.

if you do buy store-brand groceries, PAY ATTENTION. many of them are cheaper because they're LOADED with preservatives which can cause all kinds of grievances, especially in the stomach.

Yep...I actually stay away from most of the major brands becuase they are full of gross stuff. I just don't know why they appeal to so many people. I stick to the organic items. When I go to the regular grocery stores, I find myself buying the organic store brand items over the brand names. I think I had one item in my cart last time that was a brand name and it was popcorn. It was the only popcorn that they had that was not for the microwave. If the store that I was at had an organic version, I would have prefered to buy that.

I shop at a Kroger a mile from where I live and they carry the best selection of foods available in their own brands.

Since Cinnamon Toast Crunch there is nearly $5 for a half box and $6 for a family size, I buy their Cinnamon Swirls for $2.50. Plus their Cinnamon Swirls cereal is better in quality than that cinnamony crunch. When it comes to ice cream their Private Selection is good but it doesn't beat Mayfield ice cream by a long shot. Now that's some pure ice cream!

It realy dosent matter to me unless thers like a drastic price diffrence

Aren't store brands usually virtually identical to the name brand product? Can you give an example?
