I hate Microsoft for its never-ending upgrades. I use Windows 7 now and have no intention of upgrading to Windows 10, in spite of Microsoft's pressure to do so. There are rumors the eventually Microsoft will invade people's computers and force an upgrade on them. And more rumors that future versions of Windows will not be sold on a one-time license basis but on an annual subscription fee basis.

Microsoft has announced that after July 29, Windows upgrades will not be free and will cost $120 for Home and $200 for Premium. Couple that with the fact that Microsoft has ceased all support for earlier versions of Windows and you have a pretty dilemma.

There are free software programs to prevent Microsoft from downloading Windows 10 against your will. One of them is Never10: https://www.gre.com/never10.htm

Time for Linux?

It's Everywhere! It's Everywhere! (Except on my laptop. Never had it. Never will. Ha Ha Ha-a-a-a-a.)

Windows XP > Windows 98/Me > Windows 7 > Windows 2000 > Windows 8 > Windows Vista > Windows 10 > Windows 95

My laptop updated to windows 10 by its self one morning i came home from work and i was like wtf. It made my computer slow and it kept freezing a lot. So i reverted to windows 8 and had to "refresh" my computer, then i disabled the windows 10 update. So no more annoying pop ups and Microsoft threatening to install it on my computer by its self. I hate windows 8/10 because of the stupid tiles and how i accidentally hit the windows button and it goes into tile mode and windows 8 because it has no start menu.

I sort through my updates and I hide the Windows 10 ones. I use Windows 8.1 and I haven't gotten a single nag to get Windows 10. I'm not just going to jump on the bandwagon because it's new, I have to see how it works. 10 has various problems that I'd rather not get into.

I'll get 10 when I get a new computer that comes with it.

I've become a Linux convert because of the Windows 10 mess. I keep a Windows 7 Virtual Box VM on my Linux host for Quicken and that's it. I do have Windows 10 on dual boot but I haven't had to boot it for months.

1. Linux is free.
2. Linux doesn't spy on you.
3. Linux doesn't tell you no.

I'm done with the constant defragging and virus scans and having to clean up the crap all the time. I should have switched a long time ago.

Orion Fyre where are you ?

I have windows 7 and have no plans to go to 10. In the event that they try to force it on me I will go tablet with an android OS.
I use my kindle fire a lot now as it is, but I like my computer room hide out so I still have my lap top.

I have 10..since it came out. My husband takes care of all of that technical stuff though so am not even sure what it was like before 10 anymore...

I have read so many bad reviews about Windows 10, so no i will stick to Windows 8.1.

I do however keep getting prompts to upgrade to 10.

I use an old PC Laptop strictly for work stuff at home, and work is optimized for Windows 7, and I've been told the work stuff is hopeless using 10. So no upgrade for me even though it yells at me all the time about it.

My latest laptop is Windows 10.

I hate it as much as I've hated all the other versions of Windows.

My IT department told me the same. I updated to 10 my work computers anyway. Haven't had a single problem.

10 really is the best OS I've ever used.

I initially didn't like what looked like the Sesame Street inspired layout...but my husband did something so I don't see that anymore...

Without your knowledge, 10 will download in the background and will eventually force you to upgrade. Been there, done that. It took me days finding out how to rip it out of my system. Once I did find out, it took hours to do.

Once I had it completely out, I installed Reflect and do backups.

When 10 installed, it used my Hotmail account not my Live account. Oh joy. I didn't have the password for Hotmail written down. That's why I had to revert using Reflect.

Then it blew my desktop icons halfway off the screen. Not quite as bad as having 10 desktop screens (that happened with Win98).

I'm waiting until I'm just under the wire to upgrade.

All those update messages were driving me crazy and finally I did it last december. I didn't like windows 10: the layout, the colours, the icons, everything was wrong and I just couldn't work with it. I tried to go back to windows 7, but I was unable to do it myself so I had to pay 45€ to get it done. I keep getting messages forcing me to upgrade, the last one just 20 minutes ago.

I'm not sure about 7, I have 8.1. Go into the Control Panel and look for Windows Update. Set it to notify, not download. Then check for updates. Look at each item and find the ones for 10. Right click those and choose Hide Update.

If you already have the files in your system, you'll have to manually remove them. It's a real pain in the ass and will likely take you a few hours to do. Have a look here. Plenty of information.

Once all that is ripped out, install the free version of Macrium Reflect. Have it image your drive and do a backup. I use a 128GB flash drive for that

This is a 7 forum, lots there.

10 is great. All you haters are missing out.

That's all fine and dandy for computers big enough and fast enough to run it. Some of us aren't rich enough to afford powerhouse computers like yours.
