I've been hearing from friends in MN, and reading a number of news articles about the oppressive, record breaking heat in the US this summer.

Once a decade, NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration) releases updated "normal temperatures" based on average temps over the past 30 years. In just one decade the new normal has moved up overall by .5 degrees, with many northern states like MN, up by a full 1 degree. Why do you think that is? ..|

we had two above one hundred days I think, but we are having highs this week in the upper seventies.

We get the harsher winters and more snow in the winter, from all the melted ice and evaporated water in the atmosphere when it hits the arctic air mass that mostly dominates our weather patterns up here.

we had one or two days a week of nine to twelve inches of snow last winter. I hear it may be our new winter weather pattern.

Joy

We're at 30+ days of over 100° F with no rain and no end in sight.

It was 111F on Tuesday this week in Missouri.

Everything is brown. Very little rain.

My lawn is crunchy. Not worth watering if the temps are over 100F every day.

Very few productive gardens this year.

Farmers will have few crops this fall to harvest.

Today was the first day in the 80's for long, long time.

I went through July with a big black "hard boot" because I broke my foot -- I would not suggest that for this kind of weather.

... please no talk about global warming. I don't think I could handle it. My father said the early 50's and 30's were much worse than this. There were less cities and much less asphalt and concrete that raises temps in the cities.

NYC guy here - but I'm in San Diego for a few weeks now

Hearing from friends and mom that NYC has been brutally hot and humid - with power outages

San Diego weather is consistency 70-80 with low and no humidity

I would consider a move - if not now sometime down the road

SD is an absolutely beautiful place near the ocean -- but very expensive.

Great weather.

That was on the Singapore news actually. If I remember right, the other day they said it has been 33 days now in a row. Even in Singapore 100 degrees is rare, and the northern plains of the USA has had much higher humidity than Singapore, hence the news reports.

Jack?

I urge you to watch this entire film. I know you wont because you will just dismiss it out of hand. You will probably be too closed minded to watch it. I hope you will prove me wrong.

Watch this video and then come back and talk about global warming.

[ame="http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=8847562857479496579"]an inconvenient truth[/ame]

Listen to both sides of the story.. really listen... with an open mind seeking only the truth.

I heard of the new Texas rain gauge. A bottle cap on the patio's railing.

It was 107 heat index here. We haven't had it as bad as Austin and Dallas, but it's been plenty hot. I'm closer to the Gulf co there are the low temps. 30 - 40 miles inland are 107-110.

The Philadelphia area just ended its 6th heat wave. July broke the record for being the hottest. Luckily there was some rain and the humidity is low...for now.

The average July temperatures in Illinois were the highest since statistics were being recorded (ca. 1888). This proves conclusively that global climate change is a scam. *|* *|* *|*
Now, let's discuss abortion. :p

It's on almost every morning on Current when I get dressed.

The dude is so hard to listen do. The little I've seen has been anecdotal in content. For example dry rivers, dry lakes. That doesn't prove anything -- it stimulates emotions.

I was really hoping for TS Don to come ashore somewhere near here, but alas.
Emily may help the east coast, but I wish she was coming our way!!!

We are finally getting an overcast day with rain here. It's been enjoyable. At around 4am this morning there was heavy lightning and thunder and then came the lovely rain :luv:.

I too am a Georgian. Summers here are always hot, but hell, we have the loveliest springs and falls you can imagine. You choose to live in the South and you can expect hot, humid summers. Not much different this year than others in July and August.

I wonder...

Texas Temps

of course for the rest of them states...

California high 134 in 1913 July 28th 2011 - 120. That musta been before all the jobs left america and we had so much production we raised the temperature... shit.

Take a look at the highs and compare them to the records.... I know it is hot but... come on... stop whining.

living in Florida this hasnt been that big of a deal its hot about every day, though it hasnt been to bad but with the humidity it still sucks

I don't mind the heat, but the humidity here is crazy... I pretty much live on top of a swamp.

exact same reason why I turned down a job opportunity in Hong Kong; I heard it's even worse there (plus more roaches and lizards)

Hong Kong is hot. Damn Africa hot! HKG is usually 6 degrees hotter than Singapore, along with higher humidity.

I'm confused. So are you saying that man made, increased asphalt and concrete coverage, is responsible for the higher temperatures?

Yeah, you wanna be the first to give up your driving privileges Molten.

...and no, you don't have me in a trap for agreeing with man-made global warming. The whole theory is combustible engines, coal, etc.

Cities were smaller 50 years ago. Less everything that trapped heat. In all theories you have to have a control group. There is no control group in the emotional global warming religion.

So I'm guessing one of your solutions to curbing global warming would be to cut down on the population therefore, less concrete, steel, asphalt. That's already been tried by Stalin, Mao, and a few other people.
