  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

How much of a foodie are you?

Yes!!! That was my epigram when I worked in fine dining. All these wealthy people flying off the handle if the slightest thing went wrong with their meal. It must be terrible to be rich, idle and have it all. I promised myself on my last day I would tell a diner that the Island Duck with Mulberry Mustard was exquisitely tender, slightly sharp, and produced a moderately loose but pungent stool. Alas, I never got the chance.

Another time I was having an argument with one of the cooks...oh, I'm sorry, chefs...about whose role was more important in the restaurant. He told me I was just a "robot slave" and I told him all his hard work was pointless because it all ended up in the sewer. I apparently won because he threw a plate at me.

belamo: I'm always confused.

So what did that post actually mean?

Your 'epigram' doesn't reflect the worse part: the worse part is that great food sybarites and connoisseurs look like this:

Not like this:

I ate food from Spain.

Lol I relate to this maybe not in the way you mean--not into a lot of food when I'm in Spain ---I mean poor pigs don't have a chance in that country---Italy is way better---

but I'm not a foodie---can't be, too many foods I won't eat--- pretentious food like foams is totally disgusting to me

If foams are 'pretentious food', what would you call this one:

I don't know what foams is—unless you mean the useless froth on cappuccino coffee.

I've been to several fancy restaurants where the chef created a flavored foam --like what you'd see coming out of a rabid dogs mouth--and put it on a plate with other things--it can be savory or sweet but either way its disgusting to mefoam.jpgfoam 2.jpg.

^. Yes it does look creepy as though something is FERMENTING.

I've heard of fancy chefs creating something called "Joo" but I have no idea what it is.

A foam is like any ingredient in a dish: tasty when thoughtfully used. Chefs went over-board with it for awhile. I think that's mostly over with. Foams have been widely disparaged for years.

A jus is a light sauce made to accompany meats usually that typically includes the juices of the meat itself.

That's nothing fancy, but totally good old "peasant" cooking.

Yes.

At least in the US, though, it's associated with upscale dining. In more than half of this country you can't even buy a fresh vegetable.

Because vegetables are such fancy food, particularly in 2019, when the Americans' living is so hard that it relies on good hearty meaty meals.

The presence or absence of mere good simple cooking says more about civilization than a fucking
roof falling down or standing in place.

Fucking troglodytes. And that coming from someone with no primary "foodie" interests at all

There's tons of good, simple cooking in many parts of the US actually. New Mexico, Texas, Louisiana, New England, the West Coast.

I don't find myself sneering at people who do without. They're to pity.

I don't pity anyone. And I do more than "sneer" at people who would find "fancy" anything that they consider foreign to their own habits and taste.

I can see why.
Who wants to look at food that appears to be in the late stages of Rabies........ .......
