Well, I'm 42, and I can tell you what I wear to the gym, anyway. I've got three Nike "dri fit" shirts - green, blue and yellow - and a couple pairs of these Nike shorts.

Oh, and my iPod. :) Are these appropriate? Hell, I don't know - I'm busy exercising.

Well, I guess that would depend. I wear the shirts and shorts because they breathe easily, they cool me off, and I don't mind getting them all stinky. I don't wear anything on my head, but I sometimes slip on a couple wrist sweatbands if I'm going to do a ton of running. Do you wear the cap to keep the sweat in check?

Had to look up what dazzle shorts are. No, these Rusty Razzle Dazzle Walk Shorts are not appropriate for your age.

You wear a ball cap while exercising? Personally, I wouldn't want any layers or articles of clothing on unless they prevented me from getting arrested for indecent exposure - of course if it's colder, a few more layers and a hat are appropriate. Then again, I usually run, so having a ball cap on and running or doing stretches bending my head over would make the ball cap fall off. It just seems like unnecessary weight that would hinder more than it would help.

That's just me though; if you prefer wearing one while exercising, go for it! As far as not trying to look young - who the hell cares? I just wear what feels the most comfortable for me and I don't worry about how it looks or how others perceive me. But if you are really concerned, take a look at your surroundings. Are most of the ball cap-wearing people younger by 10-15-20 years? And is it that much of an issue for you to not wear one, even though no one has the right to invent the rule on how young you have to be to wear ball caps? I say go for it if it fits you.

To be quite honest, no one gives a shit. People don't go to the gym to critique anothers fashion sense - we go to work. Will there be a couple teenage girls who might give you a second glance because of what you're wearing? Maybe, but I doubt it. But more importantly, you shouldn't care what other people think of the way you dress, especially strangers and especially when it comes to gym attire.

^ This is so true.

^ This is also so true. People only critique when you're naked in the locker room.

Seriously, just wear a t shirt and a pair of basketball shorts. They are fashionable at any age. Your head is where your body heat escapes. Wearing a hat will keep you warmer than without it through your work out. I would lose the hat to cool down a bit.

As long as you're not hanging around the sauna and showers in a pair of tiny Ben10 undies, very obviously cruising the younger guys and being kinda lecherous, I don't think the ball cap would matter.

I'm talking to you, dodgy bearded man in my gym.

At the age of 42 I already found my own personal style and gave up worrying what others might think about the clothes I feel great in. :)

What's a "gym"? ;)

All the guys at my gym wore soccer shorts and wife beatter shirts, no hats. I quit it when they opened it up to children.

I wear stretchy, breathable running gear at the gym. They aren't age specific and are quite cheap if you get the lesser brands.

I also have some MMA style pants that I occasionally wear, which would look silly on most people including myself.

that or cotton Rugby style shorts and black cotton t-shirt is neutral and non-age descript.

Even though your dazzle pants (had to look em up) are a bit showy, I don't see an issue with you wearing them. Especially mixed with just a regular black t-shirt. The baseball cap is what seems to tick the douche box with me.

just N~A~K~E~D

I guarantee you can catch everybody's attention when you step into the gym.And it is more effective than wear any clothes.

Have a try`

Screw that...

Turn the hat around... get brightly colored shades and pull your shorts down enough to show your drawers.... THAT would be creepy.. :p

Hmmmm . . . this might sound vain but the ball cap minimizes my forehead and allows my face to be in shadow, which negates the harsh gym light. What can I say? I'm gay.

so it's to hide your high forehead (aka receding hairline?) and keep your face in shadow from the bright lights (aka hide the wrinkles)?

Yeah, ditch it. If that's why you're wearing it, you're fooling no one, sir. :)

Yep, this short is the best with the tip of head poking out wouldn't hurt.

You know how the Beaver looked cute as a kid in a ball cap, but then as a 60 y.o. in a ball cap, the look was all creepy? That's my fear.

After reading the posts and looking at myself today in the gym, I think the red ball cap, as cute as it is, will have to go. !oops!

In an indoor gym with a cap or hat or sun glasses is not on.
Looks like you are hiding something.

how are your guns? if you have some, go tank top

adidas, nike, underarmour shorts are fine

and it's more about how you work out and carry yourself vs. what you're wearing

have some fun
