How to fix/replace internal laptop speaker?

If you have a hardware problem, it could be the speakers (loose, dirty, etc) or it could be the on board 'sound card' has gone bad.

Have you checked to see if there are any 'problems' with your software, or software settings? In your sound system settings there can be 'effects' that will emulate things - make the sounds seem like their coming from inside a tunnel, for instance.

Do you have an 'equalizer' turned on in the sound system settings or media player settings? Make sure they are all turned off.

Have you tried to update, or roll back the sound driver? Do you let the laptop update drivers on its own? Sometimes the updated driver isn't right, or doesn't install properly.



If you don't know much about this stuff, you may be better off taking it to someone who does.

If you want help here, you'll have to give us some details. Make and model for starters.

my MacPro once lost sound and I had to go into System Preferences and the Sound section and re-apply it and got sound back.

I would double check and make sure all the sound card drivers and whatnot are up-to-date, but beyond that, if there's a physical problem, repairing the built-in speakers is likely to be beyond the scope of what an average home user is capable of.

you can either take it to a local repair shop where they probably have the parts and expertise with taking laptops apart, contact the vendor for repair (even if it's not under warranty, they'll probably repair it for a charge), or apply a bandaid fix and use external speakers.

I'd use external speakers. The bunny one I have I use with my mobile phone. I think it reasonable for its low price.

Oh yeah, my mother got me one of those for Christmas only mine was of Eric Cartman. Awkward positioning of the audio jack though--smack dab where his asshole should be.

Yeah that. I never use it for a speaker because it doesn't have Bluetooth, but it's a cute figurine.

Laptops usually have such crappy speakers why would you want to bother with the time and expense of fixing them beyond just checking for current drivers and so on.

To enjoy the convenience of having a self-contained/portable unit that doesn't have/need extra baggage to pack up and carry around with it.

My earbuds are way better than my laptop speakers on which instead of bass I get *chtschtschtschtst*

I doubt anyone would disagree.

But, as I said in post #16, it's a matter of convenience. If you are willing to sacrifice convenience - if you don't mind packing a diaper bag for your laptop - have at it.

Sometimes people on the go like to grab up one unit and go.

Do you mean built into your laptop, or do you carry a set of speakers (5? 7?) with you?

I was talking/thinking about sharing a movie with a friend on a bus, in a cab, at McDs, etc.
