I couldn't sing the words or hum the tune for £1 million..
However, I know the version by The Sex Pistols very well :-).

Dr. Brian May playing God Save the Queen on his legendary Red Special! :gogirl:

:=D::=D::=D::=D::=D:

As for the Star Spangled Banner?

I'm afraid I only know what's sung at public events by heart. !oops!

Didn't they play and/or sing God Save The King/Queen in British legitimate and movie theatres at one time?

I'm guessing they don't do that anymore.

Why should I care about the British (so-called) national anthem?

QE2 is an illegitimate, parasitc cunt (along with the rest of her spawn)...anyway, the tune is rubbish (something that one would have thought that Beethoven would have realised before he wasted his time writing a set of dull variations on the boring theme).

i'm a Quebecer. When i was young, i was taught the Canadian national anthem, but in french. It used to be sung at hockey games. Now they sing it all in english, except for 2 sentences in french.

Since i do not feel Canadian one bit, it's not really my national anthem anyways. And my feeling is also that National anthems do not belong in sporting events.

Keep politics and sports seperate.

O say can you see
by the dawn's early light

fuck that's all I know

something about bombs bursting in air and rockets red flare

whatev

However, I do know this:

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Grand old badger state!
We, thy loyal sons and daughters,
Hail thee good and great.
On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!
Champion of the right,
"Forward!", our motto -
God will give thee might!

O say can you see
by the dawn's early light

fuck that's all I know

something about bombs bursting in air and rockets red flare

whatev

I believe it's 'glare', and it comes before the bursting bombs.

(By the way, that's the point where someone needs to give me a wedgie so I can hit those notes.)

although i am really really canadian now
i love my birth country's anthem
it gives me comfort
a feeling of belonging maybe

Although the tune of the British Anthem is dire at least the Queen can personalise the words for her birthday.

God save my gracious Me,
Long live my noble Me,
God save Me.
Send Me victorious,
Happy and glorious,
Long to reign over them:
God save Me.

Love Eddie Izzard.

The Italian anthem is da shit!!

Here's the full version of O Canada [I can remember singing all these verses in school]

O Canada! Our home and native land!
True patriot love thou dost in us command.
We see thee rising fair, dear land,
The True North, strong and free;
And stand on guard, O Canada,
We stand on guard for thee.

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada!
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.
O Canada! We stand on guard for thee.

O Canada! Where pines and maples grow.
Great prairies spread and lordly rivers flow.
How dear to us thy broad domain,
From East to Western Sea,
Thou land of hope for all who toil!
Thou True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

O Canada! Beneath thy shining skies
May stalwart sons and gentle maidens rise,
To keep thee steadfast through the years
From East to Western Sea,
Our own beloved native land!
Our True North, strong and free!

Refrain
O Canada! O Canada! etc.

Ruler supreme, who hearest humble prayer,
Hold our dominion within thy loving care;
Help us to find, O God, in thee
A lasting, rich reward,
As waiting for the Better Day,
We ever stand on guard.

That is true of the US anthem too
which has four stanzas.
I know and can sing them all.
I also do a dozen or so others,
including several in other languages.

I have always found it to be just a wee bit ironic that the American National Anthem tune is an old English drinking song (To Anachreon in Heaven).

^ Don't forget the ramparts, and the flag that was still there.

But the answer to the refrain has changed... the banner still waves, but this is hardly a land of the free or a home of the brave any longer.

Yes, we have bananas, and banners, Star spangled ones.

I learned all the words to all the verses in grade school, at which time I could handle the jumps in the medody just fine. Still know the words, just can't make it up to the last "free" unless, of course,GSDX gives me a wedgie.
