Hunger games

battle royale and the hungar are slightly similar, but whiel i love both books, i prefer battle royale better, its over 600 hundred pages long, and has 42 characters about, and let me tell you you get to know somethign about each person, multiple people have backstories and motivations, and the deaths are really creative and interesting. and since its told in the omniprescent point of veiw you get more to the story.

while the hunger games, since it is first person, you only get ot know the littel bit katniss knows, and there really isnt any characters development except for her, peeta, and slightly rue. while battle royale you get alot of backstory for almost every single character (even if they are killed off next chapter) it makes you care a bit more in battle royale.

the movie is good too, but like the hunger games, kind of rushes everything to fit the important stuff in.

like with the whole rue thing, she had a big part in the book and served as a emotional anchor to the games and the movie she was like in 3 scenes and it was glossed over.

I haven't read any of the books and really didn't have any interest in the movie at all. However last night I went with my boyfriend to watch the movie (he's read all 3 books) and I walked out really enjoying it. My only complaint was the training sessions were all too brief, I would have liked to have seen some more extensive training instead of the 5 mins that they showed.

It came across to me like some wing-nut right-wing fantasy about wholesome, salt-of-the-earth working classes being oppressed and cowed by an ultra effete, ultra-liberal (which totally jars with the fascistic policing and unquestioning support for the games) urban elite.

This is close to my reaction, too. If there was some important resemblance to a real tyrannical government in The Hunger Games, the movie (and the book) wouldn't remain a merely entertaining exercise in paranoia.

The fact is if you have really ever looked in Fascism and Communism they have the same goals, just go about in different ways. I think the Hunger Games has combination of both philosophy in it.
Clearly having all the districts "contribute" their products to make the central state stronger is an element of extreme nationalism that you would find in a Fascist government.
The games themselves remind me more of when the Emperors of ancient Rome created the games in the coliseums to distract the citizens from the problems of the Empire, such as high unemployment and wars.
The elements of a utopian society at least in the more wealthy districts and capital remind me of communism. The outer poorer districts raise the crops and create the food and energy and then have to give it kind of spread the wealth. around
What do you think?
Oh I'm half way through book 2..at the part where President Snow makes the big "announcement" :p:p:p:p:p

Saw the movie again last night...still enjoyed it a great deal...but picked up on the fact that I did not enjoy the scenery of the games. It honestly looks like kids running around their backyard. The cornucopia was a big let down too...I pictured a huge structure that seemed really small.

I just read this and lol'd. Damn, it's that serious, huh? If Rue was described as being "dark brown" in the book, what the heck is the big deal? Newsflash, black people aren't literally black. They're shades of brown. Weird. #-o

Racist Hunger Games Fans Are Very Disappointed

I was appalled when I read this. Rue and Thresh in the film are almost exactly as I pictured them when I read the books.

The comments are disgusting and completely unnecessary.

^Well that's crazy. But the internet is a stage for all, idiots included.

I'd give the film a B. Never heard of the hunger games till a couple pf months ago, but it promised action so I went to see.

There was a lot of unintentional humour, as a lot of the maturer members in the audience couldn't help themselves laughing out loud (lol) at some of the more tender moments between the two main characters of district 11.

However I did like the end and want to see what Donald Sutherland has planned for the sequal. (Although I'll have read the books by then!)

I really enjoyed the movie but my experience was made a bit peculiar by the fact that I read the entire first book and then went to watch the film on the same day. I had never done this before and I feel as though I may have enjoyed the movie more had I waited longer between reading and watching or even if I had not read the book first.

The reasons being, I of course remembered EVERY detail that was different, left out or added in, and because I was still so immersed in the story - it was almost Hunger Games overload. Some of my comments: (put in spoilers just in case)

  • Sure, it's a movie and things have to be condensed, but the mayor's daughter gave Katniss the mockingjay pin.. c'mon.
  • No Avox mention at all?
  • The Cornucopia is not at all the way I remember it being described.. Very.. modern art-like..
  • The medicine Katniss got at the feast was in the form of a needle I thought..
  • Cinna deserved a little more air time I thought, and he's the one who motioned for Peeta and Katniss to hold hands. And the first fire costumes.. I was disappointed by the CGI in this case. I imagined the fire being much bigger, more majestic and along a cape - and it should've kept going through the President's remarks. Details..
  • Katniss first found shelter in a Willow tree, more cover.. but all right, use a scarcely branched, bare tree. I am glad they left out the fact that she at first struggled to find water.
  • The mutated dogs.. First, Katniss and Peeta (who's leg was still supposed to be pretty bad off despite the medicine - he's still in pretty bad condition when they are airlifted out of there..) were supposed to be at the lake waiting for Cato where he comes running, Katniss shoots only to find he has on body armor of some sort, and he's running from the dogs - the dogs who have the fallen tributes' eyes! Fine, MAYBE a little beyond PG13. Other violence changed - Katniss shooting Rue's killer through the chest vs in the neck.
  • Kinda wanted them to inform those who had not read the book that the arena wasn't guaranteed to be a forest - could've been any sort of climate/habitat but of course that was ruined by previews so I guess there would've been no point.
  • Was expecting more amazement from Katniss about Rue who first helps her out by pointing the tracker jackers and then begins running/leaping from tree to tree impressively demonstrating how she managed to get a score of 7.
  • When they are individually interviewed the first time they're all supposed to be on stage, sitting and waiting, and importantly, the cameras are supposed to capture Katniss' reaction to Peeta's comments. Also, she's supposed to push him into glass which damages his hands and causes her to feel a bit guilty.

I've left out a few, plenty have already been mentioned and I know, a bunch of stupid little details.. but I am convinced that had they left a few more in/not changed certain ones, we would have a more refined, ~2 hr movie. Overall, I was still very happy with the movie. It was exciting, and I almost wish I hadn't read the first book right beforehand because on its own I do think it must be a great movie to watch having no knowledge of all the book's details.

Donald Sutherland was one of the most disappointing things for me. in the books President Snow is a pretty scary guy but i don't think that worked so well in the film.

i guess it would be more difficult to portray though, since a lot of his presence is build through Katniss' descriptions of him.

Granted it's been a while, but I don't recall President Snow being that "scary" in Book 1. We don't even get to see him that often. He becomes truly terrifying in Books 2 and 3, so if anything they're going in the right direction, right?

Again, it's been a while since I've read the books so if I'm wrong, let me know!

i wounder how they going to get around the issue of nudity in the 2nd movie? And the last 10-15 minutes of that movie is going to be WILDDD! I wish peeta and Katniss would taken it all the way when they are on the beach that last night..Just staring Book 3..OMG THE WHITE ROSE CREEEPY!

Question Josh better with his natural black hair or the blonde in the movie...DING DING ..I say blonde! High list his beautiful eyes....|

I am almost done with Catching Fire and will hope to finish Mockingjay before I see the film.

Can't wait.

I didn't read the books. I am downloading one now.

I thought rue was adorable,

Who's katniss' boyfriend with the 10 seconds of screen time?
Why did they choose the cutest one to not b in the movie?

Unless hell be important in future installments.

Ok going to go read. Lol

justt saw the movie. loved it well done. looking forward to the next one but will try and read the books first.

...for those who have read the rest of the books, who do you think should play Finnick Odair?

I am thinking Ryan Reynolds...

...or Ian Somerhalder...

...or Taylor Kitsch
