Holy crap where did the summer go? Everyone pulling out flower beds? Unless you live far enough south that it's not necessary. Or waaaay far enough south where it's spring...

Yup. Bought my bird today, and I took the tin of cranberries off the shelf and put it on the kitchen counter so I wouldn't forget the damned things again.

LOL I have done exactly the same thing with the cranberries in the past.

^ The can sitting on the counter now was bought for last Christmas. (I missed Easter, too.)

the sad thing is i have to look at family again.

will that never stop.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Thanksgiving, or Thanksgiving Day (Canadian French: Jour de l'Action de grâce), occurring on the second Monday in October, is an annual Canadian holiday which celebrates the harvest and other blessings of the past year.
....
Thanksgiving is a statutory holiday in most jurisdictions of Canada, with the exceptions being the Atlantic provinces of Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and Labrador, New Brunswick, and Nova Scotia, where it is an optional holiday.

Happy Thanksgiving!

so tasty… then the soup…the turkey& gravy on toast…the turkey pies…

i actually think turkey is some of the best value in meats given how much you get out of them.

Yea, it's almost Thanksgiving... and March feels like a month ago! Most of the leaves are off the trees (except the Siberian elm that hangs into my yard; it's still green!), and soon we'll have to worry about shoveling snow, getting our cars stuck on the badly maintained streets, getting crashed into by people who don't know how to drive in the winter, etc... but just look how fast time has been flying. It'll be spring before we know it!

I'd say we still have most of the leaves in Edmonton but they are going fast. I'm thinking of buying a snowblower for my guy as a christmas gift. But that is also kind of a selfish christmas gift.

Seems weird not to be Thanksgiving yet....another month to go....I can't say I'm really looking forward to the holidays anyway.

I'm just making Pumpkin pie for dinner today...then we have a dinner tomorrow and then another on Monday. Only turkey today though.

I'm already loosening my pants and getting ready to cycle a few extra hours to make up for this.

For my Canadian friends, one of my favorites:

SWEET POTATO PUFF

1 can (29 oz.) sweet potatoes or yams, drained
1 large ripe banana
2 Tblspns softened butter or margarine
2 eggs, separated
¼ tspn each ground nutmeg and ground ginger
6 large marshmallows
3 Tblspns sliced almonds

1. Beat drained sweet potatoes until smooth.
2. Add banana, butter, egg yolks, nutmeg and ginger; beat until smooth.
3. Beat egg whites until stiff peaks form.
4. Gently fold egg whites into sweet potato mixture.
5. Spread mixture in a well-greased shallow 1½ - 2 quart baking pan.
6. Evenly bury marshmallows into mixture; spread sliced almonds.
7. Bake (20-30 mins.) in a 350° oven until heated through and almonds are slightly brown.

About 6 servings.

(Numerous variations of this recipe exist on the interwebz.)

My partner makes this (minus the banana) when we celebrate American thanksgiving in November. I'll share the banana idea with him.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians. It's on the same day as Columbus Day this year. We have those 3 day weekend holidays.

Really? Canned cranberries? Really? You gays should be ashamed...
