You know how your cat just sticks their paw in your nose or pats your cheek to see if you're awake?

Our littlest hobo stuck her paw in my eye this morning...and the tips of her claws are always out.

I now have a scratched retina and it has been pure and utter agony all day.....

...and I still have a dinner party to get through this evening. The tears never stop rolling down my left cheek, so I was thinking of a black silk patch over the eye.

You would look like a pirate. :D

The tears will still roll down.

Just keep a tissue near by

Sorry that happened to you

You might try rinsing it and check with a pharmacy about OTC drops you might use to quell the irritation. You might also want to check to see what you can do to minimize infection.

Good luck. A scratched eye is miserable.

absolutely second that! you have to avoid an infection at all costs. best is to check in with an eye doctor! an eye infection can quickly get dangerous, don't mess with your eye-sight ..

An emergency room is a good place to start.

I've been trying to cry for weeks and nothing I do, watch, or listen to does the job. Can I borrow your cat?

I've always complained that my cat likes to see if I'm awake by stepping on my chest, looking at my face, and meowing as loud as he possibly can.

I don't think I'll be complaining about that anymore.

Best of luck, rarest of boys.

He's now a declawed pussy. I'd highly recommend it. Your eyes, and your furniture will thank you!

Ugh! What a cruel thing to do to a cat! I just had to look it up, and to my suprise read that it is NOT illegal in the US .. it is illegal in most of the european countries, Australia and even Japan.

Remember to cut your cat's nails so it doesnt happen again.

Believe me...you want to get that checked out. I once believed I had a corneal abrasion but it turned out to be a corneal ulcer. I had to put eye drops in hourly around the clock for days and days on end. It was expensive and time consuming. The ophthalmologist told me from the outset that he was unsure if he could save my vision in that eye. With some good luck I made out like a bandit and didn't even have any deficits in my vision.

The bottom line is don't F around with your eyesight.

Here's a picture just to illustrate how bad they can get. And it's faster than you think!

I take it you don't know much about the chap you're preaching to. Somehow I don't think you're going to make a convert out of him.

Sorry to hear about your eye Rareboy. My aunt scratched hers on a pine needle as we were opening presents one Christmas morn. From her reaction, I could tell it was a very painful experience for her as well, but I must admit it was a delight to witness.

And now, a quote from declawing.com: "First, you should know that declawing is pretty much an American thing, it's something people do for their own convenience without realizing what actually happens to their beloved cat."

This phenomenon strikes me as strangely familiar, but for the life of me I can't figure out why.

Rareboy, PLEASE get your eye looked at, even if you think it's feeling better. I haven't seen anything yet, saying that you did.

Meanwhile, always take solace that it could have even been worse:
