  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I feel the earth move under my feet...

Move to Idaho. There are no earthquakes, hurricanes, tornadoes, or floods. :p

When I lived in California, the quakes I felt were mild (like today's).

While in the Pacific Northwest, I've been in much worse.

The next big killer earthquake could happen anywhere. Even in the Midwest...

Move to Eau Claire, then. Every major storm tends to dodge us, so we usually don't have too much snow during the winter, and maybe a flash flood here and there in the summer, but those are easy to deal with.

Yeah, most major storms seem to bypass EC like it's a plague. Another reason why EC is a great place! Don't most flash floods happen in corn fields and parts of downtown?

Though I would say move to Mpls! :D Skyways are great for all year around fun!

I was making out with a hot bear in the leather tent at Pride when it happened. It also happened at the same time the fireworks were going off. Great timing in my opinion.

Nothing exciting happens over here. We just complain all the time. We complain when it rains, we complain when it snows, we complain when the wind blows, we complain when it is too hot and so on... I think it would be hilarious if there was a big earthquake in the UK, we would be talking about it for months.

I was watching King of the Hill or something like that on FOX with my new 9-week-old kitten curled up on the headrest of the easy chair. She went three feet straight up in the air, landed on the back of my head and neck and DUG IN HER CLAWS!!!!!!!!!

My only thing is, comparing living in California to living here in Minnesota:

When it's cold, you put on more clothes.

When the roads are bad, you drive carefully or stay off the roads.

In a tornado, you go in the basement and get under something heavy if you can.

What the fuck do you do when the EARTH IS MOVING? LOL!

I know, I know . . . everyone gets used to the conditions where they are. It just trips me out psychologically sometimes.

Twist and shout.

Aren't there supposed to be a couple of little ones before the "big" one hits ?

Minds out of the gutter, boys. ;)

Seriously.

Isn't Cal long overdue for a major quake ?

Agreed. You never know if the building you're in will collapse on top of you.

The newer buildings have more earthquake design features. My home was built in 2002 and the chimney is not built out of brick, the foundation has metal strips/bars running through it in both directions so that in an Earthquake, the home moves together.

The builder made it very clear that we were not to tear into the foundation because the tension on the metal strips would easily kill someone. It was designed to minimize damage in an earthquake.

If it's a big one, get in a door way.

If it's not, just enjoy the rumble and have a giggle when it's done (and they only last a few seconds).

The ones I've lived through are like going on a bumpy road for a few seconds.. nothing worth getting upset about at all.

They're more fun than anything else.
