  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I got a new hip

I understand that. I also know that the sooner he gets hip #2 done, the sooner he has fuller mobility an less pain.
His transplanting is on hold, might be back on later in August.

Not to be flippant, I would think that maintaining his positive attitude in the face of deteriorating mobility should be his priority
So far he seems to be doing a very good job at that
I know from my own experience that it would have been very easy to sit back and let my friends take care of me.
I elected to forego their assistance except in the most exceptional of circumstances and I put my swift recovery down to forcing myself to do as much as I could

Transplanting doesn't start again until after the third serious storm, or enough rain to soak the ground a foot and a half deep. Summer is for piling up mulch in the area where fall transplants will go.

I was told not to force it -- but not really hold back, either. I know I pushed it a bit hard a couple of days when the good old OCD kicked in and I refused to quit out at the project until I'd finished what I went for, but other than that I've fairly well ridden the limit.

Just a random (and quite pointless) thought but as I read your thread title, I heard it in my head to the tune of Hewy Lewis and The News ~ I wanna new drug..... ('cept i gotta new hip)

Kuli,
I think you're doing great.
I also know you won't really sit around all Summer, even if you did get the second hip done.
Our friend didn't understand my meaning.

Getting the second hip done in July would kill my summer. No swimming for over a month? Sorry; not gonna happen.

But if I get it done in October, I can use the crutches as the beginning of a Halloween costume.....

Ah, sweet swimming - which is good therapy for your legs.

I see. It's your body and your pains - the trade offs are yours to make.

Shall we start stocking up on cast making material, so we can complete your outfit with a full body cast?

Is the pair you have adjustable?
If you can't do it yourself, by all means - stand tall!

My partner just got out of hospital yesterday from having his hip replacement. He seems to be doing pretty well, and to be honest his walking is already an improvement on his limp before. I'm having to be on my best nurse behaviour now though, as his on crutches and cant carry anything...

God bless you all, must be difficult to adjust to this

You and Neil are providing a great forum for people to learn

Whether we wind up needing replacements, or simply know people w/ new joints, it still is a great help to have the knowledge.

^^ Indeed. All the theoretical books on what will/can happen are no replacement for first hand experience.

In my view it has not been anywhere near as difficult to recover from as I feared. But then I had no-one to ask
