  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

I got a new hip

Yeah but with global warming Oregon is what Calif used to be. Still, kinda bad for joints. Why not move to Burns or Bend?

I tried living without the ocean -- doesn't work for me.

I've thought about Brookings... but then it got "discovered", and prices for land, houses, and everything nearly doubled.

I was just mentioning the trip aspect. I figured SoCal was relatively close.

When is your surgery? Coming up right soon, isn't it?

Tomorrow. I really wish I didn't have to take a shower with their special solution; that means getting up even earlier.

Today's final trip out to the project got sort of rained out. The weather is like October at the moment -- just more weird summer, I guess. Hopefully there will be some summer left when I can get around again.

BTW, I was pointed to a place that supposedly has a heated saltwater pool, same day-use price as the Y, but open 24/7 (so I could go in when I don't have to worry about bumping into people, like, oh, midnight). Gotta check it out.

I'm gonna have to travel back from the hospital without AC. Last week I ordered a new unit for the truck, but with the pain pills, I forget it had even happened! So eight days after I ordered and paid for it, I picked it up.... Not even sure who I want to have change it. But hopefully it can be done quickly, so after the first week or so I can try a road trip.

That sounds good - catering to your needs as opposed to just certain times.

What is this about not liking Huck and Jim's raft - You? Mr. Nature Conservationist?!

I see how it is.

This just in:

my driver has decreed that Bammer is not going. The beast was disobedient with him last time, and he isn't going to put up with it again.

I just wish I could figure out how to get Bammer to stay where he's supposed to be -- like, with me, or with whomever is taking care of him.

That's what the cheap rubber water float on top of the raft is for.

Oh. Best of success with the next new hip. Glad you didn't wait until later. That was originally the plan right? I hope your recovery is uneventful. Give some thought to an orderly and deliberate winding down of the pain medications, since they've been a part of your world for a while now. I'd think if you can schedule things and anticipate side effects it will do you well.

Kuli,
I was trying to give you a modest amount of creature comforts while still being mostly organic, lol.

I hope you did well today.

I got two different sets of directions about the oxycodone for pain: the meds guy at the hospital said to take them on a regular basis, because it will build up in my system and be more effective, but the take-home instruction packet says they're for "at need" to handle "breakthrough pain".

I discovered yesterday that I've been experiencing one oxy side effect without realizing it: itching, especially in moist places on my body. I guess I need to figure out how to avoid sweating.

Now you've totally lost me.

Except for the matching titanium and high-tech polymer inserts in my body, I'm pretty darned organic. :p

I hope you did well today.

I was released before noon today. Yesterday, the surgery went without a hitch, smoothly enough it took about 2/3 of the time scheduled.

My driver arrived with Bammer just as I was starting going through the final checklist before release. All the staff were thrilled that he got to be there.

The surgeon stopped by early in the morning and I related to him that I'd told my driver, who was coming out by bus, that if they gave him any hassles he was to tell them he was taking this service dog to a patient by doctor's orders. He said, "That's right!" So if the bus driver had given Tony any grief, he would have called Dr. D. Fortunately, he didn't need to (though it was still obvious that the driver doesn't understand the law about service animals).

I did, too. Whilst in the hospital, they were administered regularly. When I was released and got the prescription, it was 'as needed for pain'. I turned in about half the bottle for disposal at the drug store. I hated the side effects, which, funnily enough, didn't include the itching you've been plagued with.
