  • Hi Guest - Did you know?

I got a new hip

I like "Kuli's Place".

Dang it -- forgot to take some pics today. I took weeds and mulch and rotting wood out to one of the trail embankments to enhance the moisture retention the ferns and seedling and poppies need. The little fern that was doing so well last week looked a bit dehydrated today, so I added some mulch to the trail by it and then sand on to top hold the moisture from the mulch in.

This is supposed to be about my hip.....
I thought this was supposed to about your hip. :p

Frank,
Hip's healing, life goes on - He still hasn't posted a pic of his scar.

I think it is appropriate
This should be about your hip and how you can/have overcome its limitations :)

It's the other hip giving limitations, now. Like today, just to get back out of the dunes I had to munch a cannabis brownie and take three oxies.

Now I'm mildly hallucinating . . . the screen looks like it's alive or something, and as the letters appear when I type it looks like they're popping through from behind/inside the screen. (!)

woke up, rolled out of bed... right hip collapsed under me

three Tylenol later, I can walk on it -- now it's time for a cannabis cookie, a ginger brew, and lunch, then off to the conservation effort

Are you sure you want to wait until October for the second hip?

love the new avatar - sorry about the hip. donquixote makes good sense.

The right one is the bad one now? Am I right?

Yep.

I got my pain med regime just right today! After those three extra-strength Tylenol, like an hour after, I popped a cannabis capsule. I was walking almost normally! Then when I got to the parking lot from which we access the conservation area, I took two regular Tylenol. At the first twinge from the hip, I popped an oxie as a preventative. And just before heading in for the day, I munched a cannabis brownie. So aside from the issue this morning and then getting out of the truck after driving home, I was basically pain-free.

Our best "summer" weather is often in September, and I want to be able to enjoy it, not convalesce in it.

After today's perfect run with pain meds, I think I've got the balance (though I probably should have eaten only half of the brownie) down pretty close. If I can stay pretty much pain-free, I want to enjoy the summer.

You may be able to medicate to hold the pain at bay but you have to think about how much more damage is being done to your bad hip

I think you have proved that you don't need as much extreme convalescence as you think ;)

Indeed, but not with my hip. With me, it was (and still is) my back. I could easily have become an alcoholic or a druggie, but I know my limits with my back and, when I reach it, I stop. However, with alcohol especially, it made me oblivious to the pain and I would go way over my limits and end up in such pain that it would lay me up for days. That's one of the reasons I haven't had even a sip of alcohol of any kind in over 2 decades.

It can become a vicious, vicious circle.

This is the problem with any injury or medical deficiency
As typical males we tend to hope it gets better on its own or we can pop a few pills to cover up the pain.
I am currently about to have surgery to address osteoarthritis in my shoulders.
I have put off going to a doctor for months but have finally faced the fact that I need some intervention.
I have been told that the surgery and recovery is much more complicated than having your hips done so I am unsure how it will pan out

What do you do about the "high" part? Doesn't that intrude on what you may be trying to do, perhaps you would prefer not to be high...or are you using a strain that is less THC-potent but still retaining the other therapeutic ingredients? I would not want to need to depend on pot to manage my pain, because if I'm high I simply get nothing done...ever.

Some people get a lot done when high, so my experience is not a universal one.

That's why, in the very rare instances I've been subject to some kind of pain management [NOT SINCE 2003], I actually used the meds only when it became intolerable. When I had a kidney removed in 2003, the doctors were very surprised that I "pushed the morphine button" only three or four times during recuperation. Even if I don't like it, I realize that pain is a signal, and I want to know that I'm not going past my limit and harming myself in the process.

Kuli,
Check with your doc on the Tylenol - taking too much of that can be a LOT worse than an extra Ibuprofen or aspirin.
Check the side effects on-line - I it can cause irreversible liver damage.

I'm phasing out the Tylenol, trying to replace it with CBDs -- former physical therapist friend says it should actually work better.

I wasn't sure what CBDs were, so I'll share this:
