I got a new hip

Indeed. In fact, patching and sealing ducts is the one thing duct tape should not be used for. It was created by the US military in WWII as a temporary 'fix-all' from patching leaky canteens to mending boots to sticking a bumper back on a jeep. It has 1001 uses, but patching ducts isn't one of them.

Interestingly, the nickname "duck tape" was the original name. Duck tape started out as a sort of heavy ribbon but without adhesive of its own. The name stuck around when it was made lighter, rubberized, and given its own adhesive.

Probably until my late teens, I thought it was this ...

I always get a kick out of this one:

OSU Beavers duck tape... the U of O Ducks are the big rival. Of course they have their own:

Novocaine? I rarely use novocaine - blows my dentist's mind.

^Hmmm...we hit 90 in a few spots around metro seattle...

That's because despite the Sound, Seattle is effectively, meteorologically, an inland city. I could find 90 just by driving twenty miles to get out of the coastal zone.

But actually, that would be bad for the hip: the main issue at this point remains swelling. Of course, since I'd be driving those twenty miles on a highway following a river, I could find a nice place to cool the hip down.... :D

<I need a skinny-dipping emoticon!>

There's always Chaz's bottom pic - you could shrink it a bit.

The right knee and shin hurts a lot worse than the hip, now. That leg was so accustomed to walking crooked to accommodate the hip, now that I'm walking in line again it hurts like crazy.

So I pushed the limit a bit today. We finally had an actual summer day at the beach! So I splashed in the surf with the Bammer, built a dam in a series of tide pools to make one big pool (where I could float on a inner tube), and went on a two-mile hike in surf, wet sand, dry sand, a wooded path, dunes, and back to the beach. Everything aches tonight, but I'm walking fine.

Can't wait till morning, though.....

^Maybe a move to Bend or Burns would be more salubrious than the foggy coast. 85 here today btw....and dry!

Kuli,
Was your romp near where you're doing the conservation work, or some other place?
It's coming up on 0730PDT - how are the joints and muscles doing this morning?

I'm thinking more along the lines of Brookings, at the extreme southern end of the state's coast -- it averages more than five degrees warmer than the north end. But before any move, I've still got the mom's house to get ready for sale -- which reminds me; it's supposed to approach 80 F today, so I have a deck to wash so it can have a new protective coat put on, and then painting to do on the new siding.
