Just bought this 6ft wide, 8ft tall, and 12ft long enclosed trailer yesterday brand new.

No doubt you've heard about all the thefts of my crap lately. I decided recently to get this trailer as a mobile tool shop. I will put shelves in and run an electric line to be able to plug into a house. This way, I will always have all my tools and other crap ready to be taken to and from a renovation site.

That last picture. For now I'm just stacking some stuff in there temporarily. Eventually there will be shelves, hooks, work bench, etc. Heck, if i get kicked out of the house I can always sleep in this thing.

I was gonna buy a used trailer. But good God the used trailer market is ridiculously overpriced. A 10 year old trailer like this that's all banged up and with holes everywhere they want $3800 for. I bought this 2023 with cash brand new for $4700 out the door. Which is still pretty darn cheap.

We had one contractor who effectively made it his whole office as well.

Just about everyone in this region seems to have one.

You're going to be real popular on the highway. People love following those things, and they will let you know how much with their honking and waving.

Makes it pretty easy for a thief to have it away all of your tools in one go. Hope you've invested in good security and adequate insurance.
Not really. I got a plan.

1. I'm gonna put GPS tracking in the thing.
2. Plan on parking it at home most of the time.
3. Will have 2 locks on the hitch when it is not attached to my truck.
4. When I park it at a job site and leave it overnight, will have camera setup.
5. Calling insurance to have it fully insured on monday.

I decided last year not to do any contracting work at all. The trailer and tools are purely for my own crap. The reason why I don't wanna work for anyone else is because people always expect to pay pennies for everything.

The final straw happened last year. I had a call for a project. I told them exactly what it will take and how long it will take. Gave them a quote. They angrily said no and told me how much they wanted to pay for it. I don't remember exactly how much it was, but I did the math and showed it to them. It would have been $30/day for labor assuming working 8 hours a day.

I told them no and promptly left. I've said no to everyone who called ever since. I got enough revenue coming in from the rentals. I don't need to do any contracting work for anyone else. I'll let other tradesmen deal with all the cheapos out there. I'm done dealing with that crap.

And if it doesn't work out, you can turn it into a traveling ant circus. Have you taught them any tricks yet?

If I were you, I would also have it painted very brightly to lessen the chance of it being difficult to track.

Or with a big sign on it that says 'Big Dick's Waggin'....which doesn't really say what it is about.

Tey make these for trailers... worth the money

The lug nuts are exposed making it easy to take the tire off and stick a spare on.
You really think a thief would go thru all that trouble, though?

They would have to cut 2 locks made from hardened metal to free up the hitch. Then they gotta change out both tires.

That said, I can get special lockable lug nuts.

The robbers don't want the trailer, they want what's inside. None of the above protects the contents, it only means that they will be emptying the trailer in situ instead of at a secluded location. Which makes them nervous and more likely to use their heat.
