  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I had an angiogram and I need a pacemaker

Oh honey im so sorry! Are you on cholesterol meds? I mean if your cholesterol has been left unchecked by your PCP then that's grounds for malpractice especially of there were never any follow ups? And not to scare you or anything but are YOU SURE YOU HAD BRONCHITIS? Did they do a blood test and/or a chest x ray? The reason I ask is bronchitis and stage C CHF (Congestive Heart Failure) present nearly identically but are drastically different! I just want to make sure you know everything about your original diagnosis! If there was no prior history this could be a HUGE lawsuit for you!

I had someone call me a hospital escapee lol. I admit it. I didnt like what they were saying and I left. I should not have

I never thought I was looking at a gold encrusted pace maker, but I wont accept anything less!!!

Shadow,
I had a chest xray when I first entered the ward. That hadnt occured to me - not that I would have known about it but they were on their toes and congestive heart failure was in the back of their minds. Whew!!! Thank you Shadow

A huge lawsuit? Dang, I want an Xbox

Sorry about your health problems. Hope that things work out well. At least you are where you need to be now.

Hey everybody! The hospital wifi won't allow Mark to access the site, but he wanted me to let you all know that his pacemaker has been implanted and though he doesn't know when he'll be released, he's recovering well and appreciates all your well wishes.

Looks like the heart apparently is in your shoulder...weird.

The incision is where they put the batteries for the device. The battery pack has to be swapped out every 8-12 years.

The beauty of Angiography. The filter in my inferior vena cava was installed through my groin.

Sorry I'm late to your medical related thread. I hope you continue to improve.

I'm in denial myself that I should make an effort to go get checked by a cardiologist. I have inherited my Dad's slow heart rate (in the 50's). The specialist told my Dad he was not concerned if he didn't have any symptoms.

But in the last couple of years my heart rate has gone down into the high 40's (when at rest). My pcp told me last year that if changed my BP med didn't get the rate up, he would send me to specialist and I might need a pace maker. Well changing the med (discontinued med due to weight loss) my rate did go back up into the 50's but after losing another 20 pounds or so it went back down. My pcp doesn't see those low 40's readings because I haven't rested enough before they take the readings.

You do need to see a cardiologist. They should put you on a recording heart monitor- either a holter monitor for 24-72 hours or something like a Zio patch.

Slow heart rates aren't an issue in people who are athletes or who don't have symptoms like lightheadedness, fainting, etc. If this is something that there's a family history of, then they should do protracted monitoring to observe what happens over the course of the day.

I can guarantee you that he is under the care of a cardiologist. It is just the way that Canadian health care works. Our systems across Canada are predicated on an integrated relationship between PCP, (who must refer to specialists), the secondary through quaternary care specialists and the follow-up care services.

The question will be be whether the OP is a compliant patient willing to follow the clinical care map. Otherwise, he'll end up in Emerg again.
