There was. He was a guy named John Anderson, who was a Republican who lost the primary battle and ran as an independent.

I voted for Carter in that election, mainly because he was not Reagan. That was my first Presidential election. I should have voted for Carter because he was a good man and an excellent choice for President. He's also the best EX-President ever.
