Oh I have this problem at work all the time. If anyone asks for pretty much anything, I'm there helping them. Even if it inconveniences me. But that's also why nobody messes with me or gets all up in my shit or anything. I figure the more I help out, the less I actually have to deal with people. Weird how that works, but it does...

I have this problem at school too... 
and it proves that you are a nice guy and people are coming to you for help or that they are using you for their own benefits.....(I feel like I'm so mean in saying this
)
And that you just have to say "no" or "I'm sorry. I got....", yeah this works for me
. But if it's from the people I like (sweet polite friends/relatives/the cute guy that I know ) it's so hard to say 'no.'

See, I kinda am a pushover (unless I fucking hate you, and then I'll just say no to even "could you pass me a fork?"), but I also don't mind being one in the workplace.
Piggy, you clearly are bothered by people taking advantage of you, so don't even apologize to them. Just say, "I'm busy" or "I can't right now." Or you could get really mean and say you'll do it but then forget about it. They'll never ask you again if you do that!!!

That is a terrible idea....that seems a little unethical to me. I think that it would be better to be honest than to play a dirty trick on them and have people think that you are an irresponsible person. That could backfire on your career over the long term.

I say the same thing, and if they press on with more questions like busy doing what or whatever - I just say I'm busy I can't do it.

If you have some repeat customers for your largesse -specific folks you think might be taking advantage of you- how about returning the favor? Immediately ask them to do something for you. "Sure, I can do that for you tonight. Can you do this and that for me this weekend?" Even if they agree, it won't take long for them to catch on that you expect favors returned. If they're legitimately in a bind, maybe you two can have a good working relationship where you do favors for each other. If they're passing off their job, they'll look to someone else who perhaps likes being treated like a rug. If they agree to do something and fail, they (should) know not to ask again.

Seriously, always tell the others that you'd love to help them out agian but that you have an appointment that will make it impossible to do it. Then appear helpful and suggest some other chump.
