... my right foot is killing me. A few weeks back, I twisted it and it popped really loud. Never really hurt or anything, but once in awhile it would send a sharp pain up my leg.

While cleaning, I tumbled over something and banged myself up. Ever since, my foot has had a sharp pain in it. It's okay if I keep it flat against something. When I extend or flex it, the pain returns. The pain seems focused about halfway between my toes and ankle, mainly on the top of my foot and radiating down to the right side. It's not swollen or turning colors. Not sure what I've done, but it hurts. Icing it (and heat) have done nothing to help other than making my foot cold or hot...

If I didn't know better, I'd swear I broke it and the tumble aggrevated it. If it's still hurting in the morning, I'm calling and making an appointment with the doctor. For tonight, I'm taking a couple of aspirin and going to bed.:confused:

-and of course now, the stupid T on my keyboard is acting up... :grrr::grrr:

Yes my okstatecowboy.... visit the doc as soon as you can tomorrow...
You've done something that aspirin, ice, and rest won't soon cure.
Could be just a bad sprain, but best get it checked out.
:(

Hey Mikey,

Sounds to me like you have a sprain, that is, an injury to one of the ligaments in your foot. Sprains can be extremely painful, and the best way to treat them yourself is using the RICE method:

Rest: The sprain should be rested. No additional force should be applied on site of the sprain.

Ice: Ice should be applied immediately to the sprain to minimize swelling and ease pain. It can be applied for 20-30 minutes at a time, 3-4 times a day. Ice can be combined with a wrapping to minimize swelling and provide support

Compression: Dressings, bandages, or ace-wraps should be used to immobilize the sprain and provide support. You may find that a snug ace bandage wrapped in a way to keep your foot and ankle from moving will provide a lot of relief.

Elevation: Keeping the sprained joint elevated above heart level will also help to minimize swelling.

Usually, fractures are associated with intense pain and immediate swelling and discoloration at the site, but this may not always be true. In either case, it is best for you to be seen by a doctor or other advanced care provider (nurse practitioner, PA, etc) to get some foot x-rays and really track down the cause of the pain.

For the meantime, as far as pain management, really consider the ace bandage and an over the counter NSAID like motrin if you are not allergic, as they work to reduce inflamation in stead of just reducing the pain.

Thanks guys. I have an appointment with my doctor at 11 this morning. The nurse said I might end up being sent to the hospital, but they'd take a look first.

It doesn't hurt quite as bad today, but I still wanna have it looked at to be on he safe side.

Will update when I know what's up.

Small update here...

It isn't a sprain. We've ruled out this much. The doctor gave me some prescription NSAID to help while we wait on the x-rays to be fully reviewed. The tech said he though he saw a least two "issues" on the films, but wouldn't say they were breaks/hairline fractures. But he was confident enough to say it was more than a sprain.

Okay, off I go. Maybe I should find something hazardous to do before the dizziness and/or sleepiness from the pill kicks in... Or maybe just find some heavy industrial equipment to use...

mikey
-not looking forward to waiting 2 days to find out the results of the xrays...

Sorry to hear that your issue is a little bet more complicated, but fortunately if the Doc gave you some NSAIDs they shouldn't knock you out or make you woozy...

but then again, everyone responds to meds differently.

When you go back to see the doc, can you ask for a copy of the radiologists report?

best of luck to you!

I get a kick outta the warnings on medications. The print out I was given actually said to avoid hazardous/life-threatening activities -such as skydiving, rock climbing, and bullfighting! And to avoid the operation of such heavy industrial equipment including, but not limited to: jackhammers, bulldozers, and cranes.
And remember to use sunscreen on your medications! What- my meds are gonna go sunbathing???? Hehehehehehehe!

Actually, the only thing the meloxicam has done is given me an upse stomach (but that could also be from my dinner)...

Okay, I'm off to finish reading a book and watch SciFi for the night.

The ACE bandage idea has helped also.

Glad we could help :)

NSAIDS, like the Mobic you are taking, are best taken with food because they can cause upset stomach, along with some other GI symptoms, so make sure you eat before or when you take one of em.
