I kind of have an OCD personality to begin with. Aspects of my life generally run hot or cold, black or white. However, my obsession is now the gym. It's all I can think about -- working out, making my body stronger and bigger, buying eating all of the right foods, taking the right supplements, etc. I'm not a compulsive exerciser but I do have body dysmorphia. Should I be concerned or just go along for the ride? Other aspects of my life give me little joy and are lackluster. The gym is like a shining beacon of sorts.

If you spend as much time actually working out and eating your diet than thinking about it, then why should it be a concern? Obviously you shouldn't go crazy and over exert your body with your new found gym obsession.

Better to obsessed with gym training than taking drugs, smoking or alcohol i suppose.
Remember, you must not take protein shake or roids to bulk up your muscle.

** oh and let other guys touch your muscles ...

Gyms are full of compulsive people and people who are 12-steppers. It's not uncommon for gym regulars to say that they feel anxious if they skip a day or if they don't stick to their regular routine.

If you're going to have an addiction/obsession, then the gym is probably one of the few healthy obsessions to have.

When do you know if you have a problem? If you're choosing the gym over friends or family. If you begin neglecting your job or important tasks that you need to do. If you become obsessed with food to the point that your diet becomes unhealthy or you show signs of an eating disorder.

Well, so far so good but I do spend a lot of time outside the gym thinking about the gym. Additionally not a day goes by that I'm not crushing on a new hottie or hottie regular. It certainly is a young man's game and at 44, I feel like an old man.

Oh, with my Paleo diet, I'm slightly orthorexic but I do my best to keep my diet balanced!

Is that a problem? I am big time gym obsessed. On rest days, twice per week, I become very tired and am dragging my feet. Love the ability to shape my body and healthy eating.

I don't see anything wrong with this. Unless you go to the gym and exercise for extreme amounts of time like 4-6 hours at a time daily, don't give your body a rest or change workout routines or only do lifting, and that's all you do is go to the gym and exercise.

BTW I am sort of the same way with cardio exercise. I do lift some but I am more into cardio-vascular exercise since I am built for it but I do not train for marathons or run in them, or take it to extreme levels.
