  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I want to get into porn. I live in Tennessee though..

I've posted this elsewhere and given it to friends who are considering going into porn. It's written with the UK in mind - but the basics are the same worldwide!

Consider the following :

  • Your images, once out, will be worldwide forever. They cannot be removed by producers at your request if you later change your mind (many producers sell the rights on to other companies). Once on the web, your images will be there forever!
  • Take time to think of the consequences. e.g. Will you ever want to work with children in a future career, go in to politics, etc?
  • To be a good performer requires good looks, perseverance and a large dollop of interpersonal skills.
  • Are you good with people, easy going and most of all, reliable (the reliable ones get most of the work)?
  • A good porn star will take pride in their appearance and not just rely on being the 'new' face. This means going to the gym, keeping yourself clean, getting your hair done, etc.
  • The industry here in the UK has recently moved to a health standard of an HIV and full STD certificate with proof of identification on it. THIS MUST BE UNDER 30 DAYS OLD ON THE DAY OF THE SHOOT!!! Decent producers should not work with you without this paperwork. Tests are either free, cheap or up to £180 per month depending on where you live and how organised you are about getting booked in advance. Don't bother getting a test until you get on an agency's books or have been promised work. The tests take a week to develop. Always check the other performer's tests yourself.
  • Take pride in your performance and learn from other performers on how to improve. Add your own personal touch/speciality to help make you stand out from the crowd. The UK is still way behind the US and Europe in terms of quality of performance. We need to improve in order to compete internationally, which should mean more cash for all you stars and wannabes at the end of the day.

Do not enter the porn business if…

1. You will try and keep it a secret from any adult you dearly care about!

2. You are not prepared to be looked at differently (at the least) when you tell people what you do!

3. You haven't done your homework about this industry. You should know who the successful companies, producers and directors are. You should know what directors shoot what kind of content and which agents/managers have good reputations.

4. You re going to cry when your hear your old high school chums have started referring to you as the blowjob or anal queen.

5. You are easily swayed and manipulated unless you have an agent, manager or loved one that is willing to act as your mouthpiece!

6. You don't fully understand the health risks you are about to undertake.

7. You just want to try it one time to see if you like it.

Performing in front of the camera

What it's all about?

To me, this is the hardest (no pun intended) most physically demanding job in the entire industry. Not only do you have to get it up, get it in and get it off when told to do so, but you often times have to do it under very strenuous circumstances…i.e. in muscle-cramping positions, on very uncomfortable surfaces or even with men that you're not very attracted to. Throw in the latest trend of "Sexual Olympics" / shock videos and you might even find yourself rubbing cocks with a stranger as you both fuck the same ass at the same time! So, if your cock doesn't get hard when the wind blows or if you don't think you could fuck an ugly bloke for an hour with a crowd of complete strangers looking at…you don't even need to read on any further!!

The goal is to become a model that is actually requested for by other performers. A reliable guy can make a lot of money - especially in the US - and have a hell of a lot of fun!

While most males (95%) are independent performers. A small percentage of very special males are offered contracts to become exclusive performers for a particular company. This is extremely rare!

What next?

Obviously, you MUST be over 18, have a valid passport, decent body and a decent sized dick.

If you have doubts about being naked in front of complete strangers, then you could always try modelling for a local college. Many have art courses that require nude models. There are also numerous amateur photographers looking for models - HOWEVER, do NOT sign any Model Release contracts unless you've read them and fully understand the implications. I have a specific release that I use for my models that safeguards their privacy and prevents me from using their images for certain things. If you can't cope with this simple posing work, then there's no point in going any further.

If you have no such problems, then start contacting websites. Look at yourself naked in a mirror, and contact the sites that use models that are most similar to your build/look. Check their content to make sure you're happy with what they do.

There's more to look at once you've been accepted, but that can be discussed once you get to that stage.

Several of my friends have done porn with BlakeMason, Eurocreme videos, and other studios, and none have had any major complaints.

Anyway, I just wanted you to be aware that there's more to it than meets the eye, and I hope that some of the above has been of use.

But the best bit of advice I can give is: If in doubt - don't do it!

This just isn't true. Just the ranting of a bitter kid who can't get laid and spends most of his time ripping other people down since it takes less effort than building himself up.

No. I'm just sharing the facts. And I agree with everything that quasar wrote above. You work in the porn industry, and getting another "twink" such as the OP in front of the camera would mean more revenue for you. As for me, on the other hand, I have nothing to gain or lose if the OP decides to seek employment as a performer in the porn industry. So it stands to reason that my views on the matter would be more impartial than yours.

My doctor was a Colt model. My real estate agent made porn in the 90s and my personal trainer has, too. So has my best friend who works at NASA.*

My neighbor made porn movies in the 90s while he was a buyer for a huge department store in New York and he now owns his own designer sex toy manufacturing company.

Another relatively well-known porn star is a mechanical engineer who is currently working on next-generation pace makers. I also know a couple architects, a structural engineer and a guy who works as a life coach. Another guy I know who is a very big porn star owns a company that designs and manufactures costume jewelry for department stores and I know a few makeup artists and oddly enough, a librarian.*

Soilwork, you keep on bringing up these examples repeatedly. Let's take a look at them more closely. Most of the people you mentioned (the "personal trainer", the "life coach", the "real estate agent", the neighbor who "owns a sex toy company") could all be working for themselves. If you work for yourself, working out of your house or garage, obviously you could get away with having lots of things in your past -- whether its some porn videos or even a criminal record.

But a lot of people work for a company, an agency, or a firm. How many of those people have disclosed to their employers or companies that they are former porn stars? Has your best friend at NASA told the federal government that there are videos and photos of him taking a big "space shuttle" up his rear?

You mention about your doctor being a Colt model. How long ago was he a Colt model, and did his medical school know about it? Do you honestly think it is possible to get into medical school or law school when there are hundreds of pictures of you sucking cock, being naked, or getting f*cked up the @ss out there on the internet?

Let's just take a look at JUST the last couple months --

1) Collin O'Neal, a gay porn star, was FIRED from his position as a substitute teacher in Florida once people found out that he did porn. Collin O'Neal was even featured on Dr. Drew on CNN. Dr. Drew was sympathetic towards Collin O'Neal, but that didn't make any difference. He remains fired from being a teacher, and I think he may have gone back to doing porn again (or so I heard).

2) A Massachusetts high school English teacher and crew coach who was well-regarded by his students is ABOUT TO BE FIRED (he is on leave) once a local news station uncovered that this man performed in a few obscure gay porn videos under the name "Hytch Cawke".

3) YOUR OWN former employer -- Jake Cruise -- was affected by this as well. Jake Cruise's partner was a sponsor for the Miss Hollywood pageant and scholarship competition for young women (a precursor to the Miss California & Miss America competitions). Once it was revealed by the Huffington Post & Fox News that Jake Cruise makes gay porn -- that was enough to cause a media firestorm and force Jake Cruise's partner TO RESIGN and withdraw all support & involvement from the Miss Hollywood pageant.

So don't buy this silly notion that all you can do after making porn is gogo dancing, escorting or bartending. It's just some guy trying to rip on porn stars so there's someone he feels he can look down on. *

It's not a silly notion. I can go onto websites like Rentboy right now and start listing former or current porn stars who work as male escorts in cities such as Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, New York, Chicago, Atlanta, and Washington DC.

And yes, they do commonly work as go-go dancers. Just recently, I saw gay porn performer Dante Escobar working as a go-go dancer at a West Hollywood gay bar. He is also currently featured on the cover of the "Just us Boys" promotional mini-magazine.

Life is about experiences. Do what ever is best for you.
If you don't care about your family and friends see you in porn videos, do it.

JayQueer and Soilwork have good points ... ;)

Porn always seems a good idea untill years later it some how ruins your life.... especially in America, being fired, it being used against you in court in an unrelated matter e.t.c Just saying (!)

ummm "years later" you ask yourself, wow do i look that good years ago?
You would be proud of the way you look back then.

Example,
Ron Jeremy, not a bad looking guy years ago.
But now ... so dam ugly LOL

I guess I may as well throw my 2 cents in since everyone else is. If you are really serious about doing porn, go for it but be prepared for the long haul. I wouldn't risk doing a few films just for the hell of it or for some quick cash because 9x out of 10 it will come back to haunt you. I'm sure there are many former stars who went on to make a living, you can't do it forever so you have to live somehow so I'm sure they have reg jobs like other people but there is always a chance some ex or someone you pissed off will let your secret out but I don't think that would have an effect, number one, if you don't care about anyone knowing, or number two, you are not going to work with kids (imo, that's just comes with working in the adult industry). In this day and age, its just not plausible to think someone won't find out and try to use it against you. If you work in a factory, or retail, etc, I doubt anyone would give a shit.

Speaking of trying to have a life/career after porn and not trying to change the topic of the thread, but why is it that gay/gay-for-pay men and straight women are ostracized for being in porn?

Maybe I’m oblivious, but I have never seen a report or article where a man who did hetero porn is being put through the wringer.

good luck, man.

i have always been really tempted to try it out but idk. performance wise, i think i have it. i think what would set me back is my severe lack of confidence.

tbqh i think i might be just too old for porn now.

i dunno, it seems to have worked out well for brent corrigan.

Not necessarily. I talked to him a few months ago and he's not doing porn anymore, he wanted to get into other mainstream stuff but he was finding it difficult because some people wanted to work with him but were worried about the perception their stuff would have with him in porn.

let the producers be the judge for that.

No. I'm just sharing the facts.

no, you're not. You're spreading your phony self-imagined moral superiority. Which doesn't actually exist.

You work in the porn industry, and getting another "twink" such as the OP in front of the camera would mean more revenue for you.

Except the studio I work for doesn't hire "twinks." And I don't get "revenue" from individual models.

So it stands to reason that my views on the matter would be more impartial than yours.

Well no... it doesn't. But it DOES stand to reason that I know more about it than you do.

Soilwork, you keep on bringing up these examples repeatedly.

That's because they're real-life examples based on real people I know. Not the invented world of JayQueer hysteria and getting a kick out of saying nasty shit about people.

My personal trainer works for Gold's Gym and my friend who works for NASA isn't self-employed, either. Nor are many of my friends who have made porn.

Has your best friend at NASA told the federal government that there are videos and photos of him taking a big "space shuttle" up his rear?

I keep forgetting what a total loser at the game of life you are and will always be.

You mention about your doctor being a Colt model. How long ago was he a Colt model, and did his medical school know about it? Do you honestly think it is possible to get into medical school or law school when there are hundreds of pictures of you sucking cock, being naked, or getting f*cked up the @ss out there on the internet?

Yup. Because it is. A convicted murderer can get into law school or medical school.

Again... as in life... you lose.

Let's just take a look at JUST the last couple months --

No, let's look at today. the Mayor of Troy was fired from her job at Century 21 for being a homophobic cunt. The moral of the story is "if you want to be a teacher or a politician or a movie star, maybe being a porn star or a homophobic cunt isn't a good choice." But there are plenty of jobs where having made porn or even continuing to make porn really aren't a big deal and nobody will care.

I can go onto websites like Rentboy right now

Something tells me you go there are lot and look enviously at the people who aren't ashamed of who they are. Like you always will be.

And yes, they do commonly work as go-go dancers. Just recently, I saw gay porn performer Dante Escobar working as a go-go dancer at a West Hollywood gay bar.

So? that means what? You know one gay porn star who Gogo dances for fun? (it doesn't pay much but it's a blast... my brother and I gogo dance at a bear bar for their "Lumberjack Night" and make about a hundred bucks... it's silly but we have a good time and get free beer. )

But amazingly enough... we both have "real" jobs, too.

And real lives.

Now, Don't be sad. 0 out of 2 ain't bad.(!)

http://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2068/where-do-male-porn-stars-get-their-stamina[/I]

If you scroll down in the first thread, you can see that fluffers were used in at least one high-profile straight video.

This guy doesn't know what he's talking about. I won't go into it much deeper, there are all sorts of issues.

But trust me, although maybe 40 years ago they had someone on staff to "fluff" the models (which I highly doubt), it doesn't happen any more. EVeryone in the industry jokes about how stupid people are for believing that and how many calls asking how much we pay our fluffers. It's pretty irritating.

LMAO @ the exchange between soilwork and jayqueer. i'm laughing so hard that i can't breathe.

Have you talked to your family and friends about this? Surely this is not something that you should hide from them. You may be ok with it and yeah it's your own life, but think for a moment what the repercussions would be to them. Even if your family disapprove at least they wouldn't be surprised when someone they know finds out and tells them that their son is performing in gay porn.

You're only 21, why not wait for a couple of years to give yourself more time to find out if this is really what you want and should do. As pointed above, going into gay porn now will ruin your chances in other career options in the future. Think about it seriously.

I feel as though there are certain jobs that will not be possible by having a porn past, such as anything working with children in any capacity, going into politics in a higher post such as presidnt, things like that. But there are other jobs where it wouldnt matter, such a a doctor, real estate agent, etc. It just boils down to if u dont mind having your image out there forever having sex with different men all over the Internet. And depends if you dont care if your family finds out or not. Because i feel as though anonymity doesnt exist anymore as far as porn goes even though they use a stage name, this is because of the Internet, all it takes is for one person to see you and then they tell so and so and so on. Anyway, you should really think it through before you do it, and see if you are ready for that.
