Since the other thread on this significant topic was closed, I will pursue it. It is my position that the Romneys are very wealthy, in the upper 1%. So have been many Presidents and Presidential candidates, because poor people don't run for President in our country. However, Mrs. Roosevelt (pick one), Mrs. Bush (pick one), Mrs. Kennedy and others have not been insensitive, if not clueless as to the economic plight of the common man in America.

Ann Romney has never had a paying job in her life. She has never worked for a paycheck. Jaqueuline Bouvier Kennedy Oanassis held jobs before and after she was First Lady. Eleanor Roosevelt worked tirelessly for the poor and underpriveleged for decades, and she was born a Roosevelt and married a Roosevelt. She never had a paying job, either. But, in the middle of the Great Depression, she never said, "I don't even consider myself wealthy". Jackie Kennedy probably didn't live pay check to pay check, or wonder by Tuesday nite how to feed her family until next Friday at 3PM. She was born an elite and married great wealth. I doubt either Jackie or Eleanor ever said they were not wealthy. Puhleeze.

Ann Romney has raised her kids living in multiple houses (and having to have a Cadillac here and there for soccer, I guess) with the support of staff. There is nothing wrong with being rich, nor with not working for a paycheck. But to be married to Mitt Romney, be the former First Lady of Massachussetts, live in four houses each of which is worth millions, and not consider oneself wealthy is disengenuous, or insensitive or totally clueless. My feeling is that the Romneys (both of them) were born into money, and have become insulated and out of touch with what is going on in America.

Class warfare was a term invented to sow doubt into poor peoples correct perceptions that inequality is the most serious problem of our time.

They will always make you doubt yourself, you have to resist, this is a democracy, and people have to vote their conscience.

I am humbled that you would echo my sentiment that some of wealthy do not deserve our sympathy but our pity.

Cocksucker... do you have a quote perhaps? I dont recall the Romney's claiming they were poor or unable to work or suffering.

I do recall Obama saying that his wife stayed at home to raise their kids claiming they couldn't afford it at the time. Both of them at the time were employed lawyers in Chicago. Naturally they could have easily afforded daycare. They chose not to do that and Barrack Obama made enough to allow for that.

As a note I wanna stay at home too... so terribly badly. I have worked since I was 14 and I will stop in 6 years at 48. I will then work out, read, volunteer, become and activist and otherwise NOT earn money for a task. I sure as fuck CAINT wait.

It's not bad enough that Mittens is attacked personally

Now it's his wife

Ann had the gall to be attacked by Hillary Rosen

imagine that

and somehow it's HER fault

she's got MS by the way

What I find funny is the Leader of the Democratic Party recognizes that attacking family members is just low and corrosive and denounced it himself. Yet the minions cranked up the propaganda press.

Darn it!! I thought this thread was really going to be about "staying home with Ann Romney!"

I wish I could stay home with Ann Romney and not have to worry about anything. We could share juicy gossip, go together on shopping sprees to Neiman Marcus, get mani-pedis together, get massages from hunky, muscular guys (!)

But I digress.

Regardless of where you stand politically, this was a major WIN for the Republicans. The Republicans were being hammered for weeks, after Rush Limbaugh called law student Sandra Fluke a "slut" and a "prostitute." The Democrats -- including President Obama -- made the argument that the Republican Party was waging a "war on women" and that Republicans were "anti-women." Which was also politically expedient to do because women voters overall lean Democratic.

That round on the "War on Women" went to the Democrats.

But then, liberal lesbian Hilary Rosen comes on air and makes the comment "Ann Romney never worked a day in her life." Now, it's quite possible that statement is true. But by making that statement, it also made Hilary Rosen look like she was looking down upon women who have chosen to not work, but instead to be full-time mothers. It also came across as very elitist -- here is this wealthy lesbian woman with a high salary job looking down on women who choose to not earn money outside the home. Nut-job "doctor" and Fox news contributor Keith Ablow went on write a column that liberal feminist lesbians who hate men look down upon conservative women who let the man be the "breadwinner" for the household. Sarah Palin said Hillary Rosen has re-awoken the conservative "Mama Grizzlies".

This round in the "war on women" goes to the Republicans.

I can't let that go, Chance. Ann Romney wasn't attacked. Her husband used her name to attempt to endear himself to (fleeing) women voters by saying she "advised" him on women's economic issues. Hilary Rosen was taking Mitt to task. She said Ann Romney didn't work, so how could she advise him. We ALL know exactly what she meant when she said this but your side saw a chance to whip up a fake outrage frenzy and pretend that Rosen was "demeaning" stay at home mothers. It's bullshit. It's also bullshit to claim that Ann Romney is in a position to advise her husband on what working women have to face on a daily basis.

As I said in the other (prematurely) closed thread. It's funny that, when Mitt is talking about welfare recipients, raising children is not "work," but millionaire Ann Romney's choice to stay at home is a "career" and somehow saying it's different than being out in the work force is slapping stay at home mothers. (whaaaaaaattt?)

Unbelievable!!!

Having MS does not mean that you are immune from common sense analysis of your qualifications as an "Adviser on women's issues."

NO ONE is saying that a woman shouldn't stay home and raise her kids if she is able and wants to. NO ONE is saying it's not noble and NO ONE is saying it isn't a tough job or unimportant, but to PRETEND it gives you insight into what working women who often live paycheck to paycheck go through is (AT BEST) disingenuous and out of touch.

But then, liberal lesbian Hilary Rosen

Odd... you say that like being a lesbian is bad... on a gay forum. That is the epitome of ironic.

Obama refuted Rosen's statement. Must be he is a republican.

that was genius politically

his wife Michelle tweeted it asap - also genius

they threw the woman who's visited the WH 30+ times straight under the bus

she's toast

I actually think she just put foot in mouth and it really wasn't as bad as it has been portrayed

Huh? When did I say being a lesbian is bad?

I don't like the vajayjay, but I have no problem with women who do.

Yeah the media definitely inflates NOTHING all the time with the one vs another 'news' shows.

Obama refuted Rosen's statement. Must be he is a republican.

In my opinion, he was wrong to do it. By doing so he fed into the fake outrage and allowed the right to frame the argument as something other than it was.

WHy was it germane to the conversation to call Rosen a Lesbian Liberal... you failed to called Romney a dick riding Conservative.

so when Mitt confers with his wife it's inauthentic

but when Barack Obama does it's ok

the "war on women" is BULLSHIT

and the ones saying it have actually admitted while actually saying it's happening

new digs here on JUB

same hypocritical nonsense

you're too good for this bullshit Andy

Hillary Rosen did not provide "common sense" analysis

she inserted foot in mouth

PERIOD

take your lumps and move on as did the President and his wife

that's my advice

new 3-way on Helix btw - really good :)

Perhaps but I think he genuinely meant what he said. That spouses are not game for political discourse. And you know what? He is correct. Whether or not Romney did it is not relevant. I want an adult in office not a petulant child.

I agree.

I don't think that Hilary Rosen personally has a problem with women who choose to be full-time mothers, instead of working outside the home.

But in politics, you have to be careful what you say. The opposition can always take one sentence, use it out of context, and then throw it back at you.

Don't you guys remember Gavin Newsom's speech about gay marriage in 2004 in San Francisco -- "Gay marriage is coming, whether you like it or not?"

That soundbite produced one of the most effective commercials for the "Yes on Prop 8" folks in 2008, which banned gay marriage in California.

At this point, she would probably agree with you, but she was right.

If they want to roll over and let the opposition frame the argument, that's their business. I will not.

new 3-way on Helix btw - really good :)

they are firing on ALL cylinders lately (and have QUITE an impressive roster of talent currently the likes of which they haven't had in some time!!)
