  • Hi Guest - Did you know?
Hot Topics is a Safe for Work (SFW) forum.

I would like to start a boycott of the Philadelphia Eagles

. So you need to get over how much he's making.

I don't need to get over jack shit, honey.

It's the blind eye our country turns toward football stars. As if they are Gods and answer to a different set of rules than the rest of us mere mortals.

Even an American president such as Bill Clinton doesn't receive such redemption. His "horrible" act was getting a blow job in the Oval Office, and to this day the media won't let him forget it.

But a football "God" torturing animals ? Hey, all is forgiven. After all, there's major money to be made.

And make NO mistake as you sit on your let's forgive him perch, that's ALL that matters.

The NFL is laughing all the way to the bank, as they have for decades now...

More hot wings, big guy ?

>>>From my understanding it wasn't the actual fighting of the dogs that people found so heinous and despicable, it was that he electrocuted, drowned and basically all around tortured the dogs who lost their respective fights.

Oddly, it wasn't the dog fighting that got him into such trouble. It wasn't the torture and murder of the animals. It was lying about it.

Has he learned his lesson? Almost certainly not. But his lawyer apparently taught him to mouth the correct words when prompted. There's no test for sincerity (just as well - as Vick wouldn't have a prayer of passing that). But I'm betting he DID still learn a lesson - the eyes of the world are upon him, and he won't be able to get away with much anymore.

What a vengeful, uneducated thing to say. The purpose of the justice system isn't to "ruin your career."

I always wondered if people realize just how stupid thy sound when they denounce logic for emotion. Guess this thread answers it.

The purpose of the justice system is not to ruin his career. That is our job.

The world does not answer every question in a criminal court. It doesn't work that way. The court answers questions about the applicability of laws and applies rules. There is a lot more to life than just a criminal law question, and there are a lot more dues to pay in the world than just criminal punishments.

The rest of us are entitled to have an opinion for better or for worse about someone. Our collective opinions are known as Mr. Vick's "Social Standing." And he pretty much took a dump on his own social standing, and then set it on fire, and then stuffed it up the same hole he crawled out of when he was born to let it rot there for a while.

So, for someone who makes his living as a "sports celebrity," his social standing is something he might have wanted to take better care of. No matter how long he lives he is likely to meet a better death than the dogs who counted on him and tried to please him, and I frankly don't care how miserable he is waiting for that day, or if he lives in a box in a ditch.

LOL. First time I got called honey by a guy. Thank you.

Like Lex said before, if he was a construction worker, or a street sweeper he'd be going back to that job. Hell, even Clinton wasn't forced out of office. But YOU want Vick to answer to a different set of rules. Who said he's been forgiven? Do you think the media will let Vick forget this?

Such a bad argument that everyone keeps bringing up. Like I said before we obviously live in a society where Dogs and Cats are considered family. That is why there is (understandably) an outrage.

There is obviously huge hypocrisy in all of this, but who in this thread isn't a hypocrite in one way shape or form?

Taking something like that and doing what he did shows that there is some mental malfunction going on. Torturing is not something 'normal' human beings do every day.

It's not an argument. I never defended Vick for what he did. I think it was horrible and it was wrong.

Maybe the Eagles can sign OJ when he gets out of jail. I'll bet he's got a couple more good seasons in him...

Americans like pretending that they really care about animals. Except of course the ones they eat. Then it's okay to mistreat him. I wonder how many of the outraged and affected have called for the plantowners who produce their meat to be imprisoned and cast into a lifetime of professional obscurity.

The vegan lifestyle is a good nutritional and ethical decision. As is improving living conditions for livestock destined for our dinner tables. But equating the use of animals for sustenance with dog fighting is not a reasonable comparison.

If you're in favor of better treatment for animals, I will join you--but not if you're going to defend dog fighters in the process.

Defend dogfighters? I have a german shepherd I love very much and if what you said mattered (or were accurate) I'd be offended. I'm just pointing out the parallel. That's textbook hypocrisy. If Vick cooked and ate the dogs would it be okay then?

I wonder if you'll ever learn how to read.

Have you learned personal responsibility yet? Still depending on other people to get you to work?

If you don't feel Vick was punished enough, do something about it. Get involved. Pounding your finges on the keyboard doesn't solve anything except calming frail sensibilities.

When you make bad comparisons to promote an unrelated cause, you end up supporting monsters like Vick. Which you, in effect are.

Consuming meat for nutrinence is not in the same league with torturing housepets for pleasure, gambling, and enjoyment. This is not "textbook" hypocrisy. This is apples and oranges.

Eating hot dogs is not the moral equivalent of torturing dogs. And when you make that comparison, you, in effect, come down on the side of people who really are torturing animals. You excuse them to take a swipe at another population that isn't doing what they're doing.

I agree that we need to improve conditions in the slaughterhouses. You make a good point there. But there are ethical and relatively humane ways to hunt and slaughter livestock. Most hunters are good people, feeding their families. There can never be an ethical way to conduct a dogfighting ring. And dogfighters are really bad folks.

Interesting. And yet an American President can send 4,000 troops to die in Iraq to find weapons of mass destruction based upon the flimsiest of evidence and WE, THE PEOPLE give him a pass when no weapons were found. Then he said, "Well, Hussein was a tyrant and we needed to create democracy in Iraq." Uh, yah, whatever, W.

AT LEAST this NFL player was punished for his crimes and maybe he'll use his money to support local animal shelters if he has indeed found God. The Bush administration by contrast won't be punished for the havoc they've wrecked!

Oh, and it's Philadelphia Iggles! That's how the locals say it!

Ahem...Michael Vick was found guilty by a court of law. Convicted. Former Presiden Bush, whatever your opinion of him may be, was not.

Wait a minute, when I make a comparison, it's an endorsement, but when you justify animal abuse with "A man's gotta eat" it's NOT an endorsement?

I ask again, how many of the people railing against Vick are lobbying for better food production and housing conditions for livestock?

Boycotting the entire NFL punishes sponsors and teams who ignored or rejected this fuckhead. Counterproductive much?

Oh no ! Not the sponsors !!!

How will Budweiser, Pizza Hut, Sears Craftsman Tools, Valvoline and assorted scantily-clad supermodels all hawking crap to horny, delusional NFL fans who believe they're actually talking to them and their distended pot bellies *ever* get by if I turn my TV off ?

The horror of it all !

Just because you're sarcastic doesn't mean you're making a point. Not everyone who works for Budweiser is a millionaire. Theoretically if the company gets hit by the boycott, who do you think it'll affect the most, the CEO or the delivery guy who makes just over minimum wage, has two kids and no health coverage?

You guys need to let go of these emotions and try using some logic, I swear it doesn't hurt. What message are we gonna send? That when you upset us we're going to lash out and any and everyone?

If we had this same passion towards our own civil liberties Prop 8 wouldn't have won. Now it's my turn to roll my eyes.

Sponsors fault, maybe if they didn't sponsor the NFL who constantly lets complete scum bags play for their teams they wouldn't have to worry about it.

Should companies like Absolut Vodka and Pepsi stop supporting the gay community because some of us molest children and abuse drugs and spread diseases? We simultaneously demand individualism for ourselves and deny others of it.
