There is going to be an interesting event at the Mall of America tonight at 4PM. The tribal group Idle No More had planned the round dance at the MOA earlier in the year. The MOA sent them a letter saying they would be arrested if they tried it. The round dance is a dance of renewed relationships, and in a circle of friendship and peace. Not a protest as MOA has said that it would be. From the looks of it they would be on an area that would let them have their free speech.
It would be a remembering of Wounded Knee massacre. This group is working to get their land back and MOA just happens to be on their land as was part of a treaty by the US. The US and its citizens are still working to take more from the Native Indians.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Idle No More New Year’s Eve Round Dance at Mall of America
12.31.13

--skip--

Duluth, MN
Two Minnesota Idle No More organizers threatened with arrest by the Mall of America, joined by their legal counsel Jordan Kushner, will share the Mall’s response to a letter urging the Mall to work with the women to create a welcoming climate for the round dance, a dance of renewed relationships, deeply connected to Mother Earth, Medicine Waters and in the spirit of all people of all walks of life joining in ONE circle of friendship and peace, and certainly not a protest.

Things haven't changed much since the Ghost Dance, have they? As much as people think it has.

Let him convulse. If it were up to me, all federal lands within historic ranges of tribes would be given back, period.

Then state lands.

Can I have San Antonio? I like their Mayor and Representative, twins.

I hope there is new owners of MOA soon. This I took from FaceBook.

IdleNoMore MOA
from Sarah LittleRedfeather
"Patricia being arrest these women came with good thoughts and gifts to have right relations with Mall of America. They meet us with handcuffs and cruelty. - The Reconciliation of Peace, and Harmony do conduct a healing round dance for all communities was denied where the Mall of America Management insisted is was political protest, and not understanding the cultural traditions. The Drums, and Songs is not protest, they are prayer, ceremonial and celebrations. MOA is ignorant."
I Damien Kyle why the link didn't work. Copy and paste and it will.

I wish some sharp lawyer would sue cops for cruelty over their use of handcuffs. I watched a guy in Portland get cuffed and they ground the metal so tight it actually tore his skin.

I think in the cop's statement "You're not allowed to have a drum here today" there's a basis for a lawsuit.

What is that dance called where all the people there start dancing?
It seems to me that one of those was held at MOA. If it did then what right do they have to tell Idle-No-More that they can't dance.

So-called "flash mobs"? Yeah, if they've allowed those, then Idle-No-More has got great grounds for a suit.

Yeah, "flash mobs". I can't be sure it was at MOA but I've seen it at one large mall.

Good ole google.

Indian dances really must just hit some nerve deep in the American psyche where they represent the threat and the strangeness of the other or something. I have never quite been able to figure out why things like flash mobs are regarded as, if anything, amusing, whereas when Indians start dancing it's time for a swat team or, if we were a century back, literally turning military gatling guns on the civilian dancers.

Note that the leaders of that event announced and identified themselves. If MoA didn't act to penalize them, knowing who they were, then they've got no grounds for acting against anyone else unless they can demonstrate strong expectation of harm.

To be fair, some malls have acted to stop flash mobs -- there have even been a few where the mob leaders figured out just how long they had before security responded, and planned accordingly.

I'm wondering if maybe the mall owners in this case were afraid that if they let the dance proceed it might somehow establish a legal foothold for the tribe to claim their land back.

It's gonna be funny to see what happens to MOA after it goes to trial if there is one. I found this this am.

Mall of America called ‘racist’ for arresting Native American women before protest

“All we wanted to do is have the same equal access to the mall as other flash mobs have been here,” Idle No More Minnesota activist Patricia Shepard said after her arrest.

Facebook is really buzzing this AM. Another look at the arrest aftermath. MOA Security really stepped in it.

Notice the Security said to Reyna which is really is an insult by Mall of America staff was when the guard tells Reyna go across the street to the bar or go to the Native Center downtown stereotyping her as “drinker” and go to the Native Center downtown … She said she was going to get a cup of coffee after she said she was outside at the free speech area giving a conference, and the guard suggested she go to the bar. What a winner! Congratulations and Happy New Year Mall of America … employ stereotyping staff to handle tribal community..and, MOA is deleting comments from their Facebook page too. Luckily, got a screen shot.

Their arrests came exactly one year after last year’s New Year’s Eve Idle No More round dance at the Mall, in which nearly a thousand Native people and allies flooded the vestibule near the entrance to Sears, drumming and dancing in a circle.
