Op-Ed IF ONLY POLICE HAD GUNS, this never would have happened...

It won't be long before drones will be used on citizens of the US as well as Terminator robocops.

The future is here.

Meanwhile Obama has spent untold millions arming his administrative agencies--for what possible purpose? http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/jan/7/golden-hammer-feds-spending-millions-to-arm-agenci/

Looks like the VA spending is targeted at civil actions in places like national cemeteries.
The other agencies appear to be buying protective armour for their security staff.

I assume you'd be one of the first to criticise Obama if a protest at a war cemetery became violent. You'd also blame him if someone like a monument guard got shot and killed by a member of the public (or a terrorist) while wearing inadequate body armour.

Also, please note the amount in question is not 'untold'. Total spending is detailed in the article you linked. Spending on armour for federal workers isn't the same as arming them.
Do you want government workers getting shot while doing their job?

^ Obviously, the truth won't suit the guys wearing their Jade Helm tinfoil hats.

Thanks TX-Beau. That the gun nuts and NRA apologists have no concern that the police are out-gunned and that demented, violent individuals are able to obtain military grade weapons and murder 5 police officers from a great distance says all one needs to know about the state of the gun debate.

Three falsehoods in that little paragraph. Why do civilian disarmament advocates rely on lies to make arguments?

Equally troubling is that people were able to openly carry high-powered rifles in public in the middle of hundreds of people demonstrating is insane. The police would be unable to arrest them because there's nothing unlawful in Texas about doing that. So, in Texas, and any other open carry state, a mad man can obtain a powerful weapon, walk unhindered into the middle of the crowd, the police would have no basis to stop them or detain them, and then they could just open fire and kill who knows how many people with superior fire-power to anything the police would have on hand. Anyone who thinks that this is not an insane policy is themselves insane.

More troubling would be if only the police had weapons with significant power.

Proof positive that everybody being armed will not prevent such events from happening

Why this reliance on lying about what the NRA says in order to set up a strawman?

, no matter what the NRA says about it. I wonder how many NRA members would die if someone crashed one of their meetings and opened fire? How long would it take for someone there to come to their senses long enough to take the guy out?

Canada has serious lobby laws. No government should be owned by a lobby.

The NRA is millions of people banded together to combine their power of free speech. If that kind of activity is restricted, you no loner have a free country.

Give Congress the authority to make such limitations, and they'll bar gays and environmentalists from talking to Congress at all.

This was my very thought exactly. That the population is better armed than the police is another problem not in the debate often enough. The lunacy of uncontrolled sales and ownership of guns can no longer be denied.

Read the debates about the Second Amendment back during ratification. The whole point was that the population be better armed than the government.

Since the Good Guys with Guns argument is now void, let's just send in the extra-judicial robot with a bomb to sort the problem out.

If " the Good Guys with Guns argument is now void", I assume you're advocating taking all arms away from the police, FBI, etc.

But it isn't void -- we had two cases of a good guy with a gun stopping violence just this month in Oregon.

The event is tragic and results horrific but this reads almost comical.
I thought of the yahoos that are always talking about a militia. Yee~haw Texas style.

Even more troubling is the genie is out of the bag with robot kills. Like Drones these will increase in use by the police. Its just not a good idea that the police have so many weapons from the military.
Not that I care about this POS but I guess tear gas wasn't a option to flush him out so they could humanly exterminate him or maybe the robot had vocals to read him his Miranda rights ?

Texas Open-Carry Laws Blurred Lines Between Suspects and Marchers

"He said the event had attracted “20 or 30 people” who “showed up with AR-15 rifles slung across their shoulder.”

“They were wearing gas masks,” Mr. Brown said. “They were wearing bulletproof vests and camo fatigues, for effect, for whatever reason.”

When the shooting started, “they began to run,” he said. "

And they almost got shot, but I guess since they were white, they didn't?

And because they ran in the middle of the shooting, he said, the police on the scene viewed them as suspects. “Someone is shooting at you from a perched position, and people are running with AR-15s and camo gear and gas masks and bulletproof vests, they are suspects, until we eliminate that.”

^ Maybe natural selection will sort out the militiamen who think they should get in there to do the work of the police.

But make no mistake. The use of robocops and robobombs to take out civilians domestically marks a horrifying new plateau in the militarization of the police in the US.

And every force will now want ten.

And the military industrial complex...without the kinds of wars that allow them to erase tens of thousands of faceless and nameless people in far off lands....will now look to the US domestic market again to take up the slack.

Who needs a wall with Mexico.

Just set up the auto machine gun turrets, drones and autobombers.

But don't start whining when the bad guys get their hands on them too.

Read the debates about the Second Amendment back during ratification. The whole point was that the population be better armed than the government.

The weapons you'd need to threaten the government are all regulated and banned from private sale.

Fail. What they conceal is that the main reason that mass shooters decide to kill themselves is that good guys with guns showed up, and a primary reason that they decide to flee the scene is that good guys with guns show up.

"Good guys with guns"? What is this, a 70s western? What kind of dementia world do you live in?

THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!

You know, I've given this some thought, and frankly, I do not want to live in a paranoid world where we are all armed just because every little one of life's confrontations has the potential to become fatal. That is not fucking freedom Kuli, it's the OPPOSITE.

You do NOT have the right to force us all into such idiocy. There is no 2cnd amendment argument, we ALREADY regulate firearms.

END. OF. STORY.

While we're at it, you will NEVER TOPPLE THE GOVERNMENT! If by some miracle you became a threat to the Fed they'd just drop a bomb on your head, and BOOM! End of minutemen fantasy.

Even currently they could just brand it a terrorist group.

That said, it's like having the AAA membership override the mandates of elected representatives under the popular vote.

In the absence of open carry criminals can just hide their guns, so it doesn't make much difference.

As for the AR-15s in public, this makes my organized militia proposal even more sensible.

The robot thing is frightening. Too bad there's no such thing as an anti-human directed EMP, huh? Or at least an anaesthetic gas that would put someone to sleep fast.

"Good guys with guns"? What is this, a 70s western? What kind of dementia world do you live in?

The Air Force did a study and concluded that the best remedy against bad guys with guns is good guys with guns.

But rather than apply reason, others resort to name-calling with emotional terms such as "dementia". This is why the problem won't get solved: antis rely on emotion, La Pierre relies on emotion, so the folks who listen to reason are few and far between (which is why I like Colion Noir: he sticks to reason).

Paranoia at its best: you sound like Alex Jones, with the "the Fed [will] just drop a bomb on your head".

What you advocate is the freedom to be a victim, like the 31 killed in Orlando in a restroom because they were required to be defenseless.
