On a coast where on a hot day when thousands of people flee the cities for the beaches, there are still more seagulls than humans.

Another stunt -- quite illegal now -- is to put spoiled crab meat on a fish hook dangling from a small kite, and fly the kite up among some seagulls. One inevitably grabs it and swallows the hook, after which you jerk a string and reel your kite back in, and proceed to fly your seagull (the astounding thing is that many seagulls survived this treatment -- and could be identified by the string or fishing line trailing out their rears, because the hook stayed in their digestive tract while their systems tried to flush the cord).
